Philly is a cool town with a lot of character and history. it can be a bit rough around the edges, but it's got grit and authenticity. One of the only major cities left in America that is walkable, historic and still somewhat affordable(at least compared to Boston, NYC, DC, SF).

Sadly you're right. I told my homie the other day that "I'd like to go to Philly. It's a hidden gem." He was like "philly?! You tryn go to Kensington?😆" I explained to him that it's a classical American city that's only rivaled by NYC and Chicago in terms of being a true metropolis...and I can go to Philly 5 times for the price of one NYC trip. But being an east coast city, it was settled and expanded before the rise of the automobile, so the cities are more compact and walkable on east coast compared to the rest of the nation. East Coast cities always interested me. It's such a different way of life than the rest of America.

That was not the French quarter, that was Rittenhouse... there is no “French Quarter” in philly. Thanks for coming to our city!!! Hopefully next time you can explore some of the neighborhoods and Fairmount park more!! Also, William Penn was from England, so when he planned out the city he definitely used his European influences. Case in point, Broad street was intentialy built wide like that just in case if a fire broke out, it wouldn't skip to other parts of the city too fast, this was something a lot of European cities would do.
@Clavdiachauchat
@Clavdiachauchat 3 жыл бұрын
Penn insisted on the grid pattern partly because he had witnessed the devastation of the Great Fire of London in 1666, and partly because he thought streets with long sight lines would prevent immoral behavior. He thought the narrow, winding alleys of London encouraged both fire and vice. In planning his new city, he actually was trying to move away from most urban environments found in Europe or colonial America at the time. He was picturing a “green country town” in opposition to what he saw as the sordid medieval tinderboxes of Europe.

I live in Philly and really love the City. There is so much to do and see, and we are only 1 hour from the shore and the mountains, 1.5 hours from NYC, and 2 hours from Wash. DC. if you feel the need to get away. Philly has great restaurants, many of which are ethnic. The art and history museums are fantastic. It is also a City of great Architecture which ranges from 18th century through modern. Another thing I love about Philly, is that William Penn referred to it as "a green country town", and as a result, the City was designed from the beginning with parks large and small incorporated into its' urban design. It is a very pleasant walking and biking City and a very good place to visit and live.

The best thing about Philly is that it has a very European vibe - it’s more slow pace than NY but very artsy and people love hanging out in parks and sidewalk cafes. There are some REALLY rough neighborhoods and the murder rate has gone way up since COVID - but tourists and many locals have no reason to venture into those areas. I recently had a Marine brotha here visition from San Diego CA. He was in awe of the architectural design and craftsmanship of many homes and buildings. Beautiful town indeed! I’m a big fan of the show “Cold Case.” That’s how I found out about Philly. Keep up the great work!

🌺 so far the Loveliest city that you've shown in your country. Seems like a Very charming easygoing place.

@@christopherwalton5445 yes for sure there is hardship headaches and more difficult neighbourhoods than that was shown...that applies to every place on our planet...but even so, the vibe of the people and structural layout is pleasing somehow...maybe it's because of the historical background or something I can't quite put my finger on.

Philly is not easy going. People tend to be rather rude, it's high strung E Coast mentality but not as fast as NYC.

I always find it interesting when people say they were 'surprised' by how Philly was. Like what were you expecting? It's a city rich of culture and passion. It's awesome!

We have a bad reputation. Always have. Even when we were THE de facto American city during the colonial era, the South thought of us as weak little Quakers living in a dirty pit that wanted to be cosmopolitan while New England thought of us as Southern hicks that could barely speak English. Follow that into today where we're this sort of valley between the economic and political capitals of the country, and we still get overlooked for all our good aspects but all the press in the world when our sports fans do something shitty. But yo, we're happy being the best kept secret on the East Coast. We have a beautiful, diverse, affordable city with a completely unique character. We don't need a bunch of transplants fucking that up

@@ErdTirdMans I love Philadelphia! It is easier to drive in Philadelphia than New York or Boston! Plus the people seam to be nice! The food and restaurants are nice! I have been to the bad part of Philadelphia and I never had a problem!

@@isabelnavaro6322 Nice people in Philadelphia? WTF are you talking about? The people are nasty and always in a hurry to go nowhere. Also, it is dangerous. The city is full of violent criminals. It isn't safe for white people. Now, if you are black, I guess it isn't too bad, but a white person had better stay out of the city.

Sports. Sports fans from other cities have (in most cases) unjustly given this city a bad rep based on 1-2 lazy and overstated narratives from 50 years ago. It's honestly funny at this point
