I was blessed to have known pastor Peterson and Jan when I was in high school and even house sat for them once. I grew up with their kids. What a beautiful family. I’ve thought of them often through the years. They’re home now.

I had a chance to talk to Jan that summer prior to their death. He was not well. I encouraged her to keep working on her book (which she did), and left them a bag of coffee beans with her friend at the post office. I miss them both so much.

I met pastor. Eugene. H. Peterson's book when I was 18 years old in Korea and now I become over 40 years. I realize how his book and message has influenced to my life. Miss him so much and love him so much. It is physically long distance but he will be always in my heart. It is my dream to visit his beautiful and peaceful home near flathead lake someday. With all my respect and love, I am very sad but please peace and comfort in the heaven.

It is impossible to respect a man like Peterson who was incapable of bothering to see if there was any evidence to back up the ridiculous and superstitious claims that his religion makes and then wasted his life believing nonsense and beseeching others to indulge in the same delusions, whilst promoting an evil doctrine which amongst many other depravities condones slavery and the oppression of women

You know, I'm at the senior end of my ministry life... At 57, I find in watching Eugene, from this to his time with Bono, a yet longing desire to have those rare spiritual gems in my life, ahead of me, yet behind me with their hand between my shoulder blades calling me higher. We are less without him... May we grow to be him for the next generation: a hard example to follow.

Maybe just the juxtaposition of something so hopeful, sublime and beautiful and your sad sourness? Yeah, that was probably it. Feel for you. Being lost in the dark ain't pleasant. These short doc style should really be a series covering many different good shepherds/pastors in our world today. There's so much talk about clergy caught in some kind of scandal, it's creating an inordinate amount of distrust of good holy men who still faithfully serve Him in all manner of service in their small corners of influence. Make it a series in the way of Chef's Table and put it on netflix.

While watching this & listening to him speak, all I can think about is if they ever do a movie on his life - Gary Busey should play him at this stage of his life, so towards the last half. Gary’s voice sounds EXACTLY like Mr Peterson’s that if I wasn’t paying attention, I’d swear it was Gary speaking. Just a cool thought I guess

It took him 20 years to write The Message and he spent 5 of those years learning the language of his congregation. He wrote 35 books or so, but does not include The Message as his own. This is so precious. I wonder that he’d say it belongs to the people and God.

I bought The Message quite a few years back, maybe in 2003 or 2004. I never got around to reading it until just a few days ago and it's now May 20, 2018. I've been reading and studying the KJV Bible and checking out the interlinear Hebrew and Greek translations a little. It wasn't to long after I had found 3 Crosses that I was in Ollies in their book section looking to see what Bibles they had and this very tall, well dressed black man caught my attention. We smiled at each other and I told him what I was looking for and he told me he was looking for The Message. This was in the Spring of 2015 I believe because I had recently found the 2nd Cross on 3-7-15 and the 3rd Cross on 3-11-15. I knew I had The Message at home; but I hadn't read it yet and I wasn't quite sure where I had placed it. So I told him that he'd probably have to go to Barnes and Noble to find that book. This man was all by himself and perhaps an angel among us. I found The Message in one of my book shelves just a couple days ago and started reading it. I was very intrigued because it said that Eugene had studied Hebrew and Greek so I started reading. Pastor Peterson really brings out the Hebraic expressions in The Message with a deeper expression that brings about the deeper meanings and understanding. Thank you so much Pastor Peterson for this wonderful translation of the Bible called The Message. :)
