Vigorous, productive and reliable, Black-eyed Susans are easily identified in the garden with their golden yellow petals surrounding a deep black eye. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about growing Rudbeckia in your garden. This no-fuss, powerhouse of a perennial needs only full sun & average soil to bloom prolifically summer through fall. Even better, this native plant family offers great deer & rabbit resistance, and some varieties self-sow vigorously to create a large, full, striking golden patch in next year's garden. ‘Goldsturm’ was voted Perennial Plant of the Year in 1999. Since then, several new, improved varieties have been developed, including 'Viette's Little Suzy', 'American Gold Rush', and Minibeckia™ Flame®.

Good Morning Noelle: Thank you for your informative video on Black Eyed Susans. Definately would consider planting such a profuse bloomer & beauty in my garden. We had alot of rain with a tornado watch yesterday and my newly planted daylilies are feeling happy. Have a good week ahead & always appreciate your great knowledge in the gardening world!

I live in NE Oklahoma out in the country and I just have them coming up wild. I have never planted any seeds or plants. They found their way to some of my flower garden's. I absolutely love Blackeyef Susan. And also we have Trumpet vine growing wild along the roadsides. I have some growing in my yard. Watch out they are aggressive. I bought 2 barefoot trumpet vines, probably 20 years ago. I have to pull them up all over the yard every year. But I dig them up and plant them along my fence line. Thank you so much for showing us all of the black eyed Susan's. I didn't realize their so many varieties. And I really appreciate all the wonderful information. I absolutely love your video's and channel. You are so sweet.❤

I look forward to these videos....I'm in texas but the great variety and your presentations always get the 'garden juices' flowing. Have really enjoyed all of these but especially the ones on Ornamental grasses, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, etc etc. The Spotlight ones I like especially because it allows me to focus on one plant. I have ordered several ORDERS with a multitude of plants from 7 gal down to quarts (?).

We need a nice list of which ones are perennial. Tired of wasting money buying on the internet, seeds that don't give the full name or if its perennial.

Would rudbeckia be a good candidate for winter sowing?
@emkn1479
@emkn1479 Жыл бұрын
I would think so, as long as it’s not a hybrid variety that doesn’t come true from seed.

@@emkn1479 Will Indian Summer grow true to seed? Yes their flowers are big and beautiful now, but unfortunately we're about one week away from serious night-time frost so I don't think there will be enough time for them to develop good seeds. Hopefully next year they will be better in sync with our weather. This year we had a strange winter - until mid-June daytime temps were in the high 70's to low 80's*F but night time was in the low 30's to high 20's*F every night. Can seeds be sowed outdoors in this fluctuating temperature or must I wait until all possible frost is past?

@@sphillips6357 I’m not sure. You’ll have to do some online searching or asking around at garden centers or nurseries to find out if it’s a hybrid. The seeds could create something different but it could also be beautiful on its own. It’s worth experimenting anyway, if you get seeds that is 🤷‍♀️
