People don't realize the speed of a 🚛. Short distance yes. Long distance. NO NO NO. If needed a trucker can cruise 75-90 and not miss a beat. Can keep the engine alive 3 -5 days straight. They are kings of the roads 🚛💨💨💨💨

This is called "DUEL". It is Steven's very first movie. A lot of extremely exaggerated driving here! Both vehicles were early '70's junk!

That's a narrow nose Peterbilt.... Very highly sought after for collectors. That truck is still around the one you see in this movie the guy who owns it drives it around his Town once in awhile

Love the way high sulfur diesel use to burn, the smoke coming from the stacks of that old Peterbuilt is perfect.

Jeez you can still get plenty of smoke just screw up the pump in most diesels 110/90 fiat tractor incouldnhave swore was.on fire she was belching that much black reek with a full load 😂

Great little catchy tune. My best friend built a replica Class A Duel Truck & even has the Trailer. He modernized it though, power steering, n14 engine, etc. It's a piece of art. He even fabricated the mine rail front bumper from scratch. A near perfect replica that is street legal.

In the GTA version of the film, he's driving a Barracuda and mostly outruns the truck, the radiator doesn't give out, and he only gets caught because he's trapped and has to sacrifice the car.

Did anybody notice the name on the side of that pest control car was Spielberg spelled backwards, I say that because Steven Spielberg directed this movie in 1971, the stunt drivers in this movie were great especially Cary Loftin who drove the truck

He did. The entire movie was filmed on the same stretch of highway, just going different directions. The same railroad crossing was used in the whole film.

noticed with original deul truck it wasnt that brown in colour. not really. its more of a very light faded dull bronze with used engain oil splashed over it. that duel truck thats still around is coloured very dark brown and so are so many of the models people build of this truck. there all great looking, but the colour is the most misplaced thing on all those iv seen. the secound duel truck that was built for the extra scenes was coloured a darker brown but u dont really notice it. but the colour diffrence is quite stark when u really pare the 2 colours next to each other. i been watching this movie for decades and never really noticed just how diffrent the original truck is in its colour.

In a Challenger he'd be the seventh licence plate on the front of the truck. He defeated the tractor trailer not because the car was faster but because it was able to hold the road better than other cars at high speeds, taking away the trucks' advantage over it. Valiants and Dodge Darts were large body sedans built on small A frames that the mid size slant 6 engine could pull but still carried the monstrous suspension system of the large A frame. You could see it under the car when he would take off and was able to hold the road at 70 mph on curves and go over railroad crossings at 85 mph with no bounce or leaving the road. A Challenger would be in a ditch waiting for a tow truck.

My question is in the movie why didn't he just drive like hell let that trucker keep on chasing him use of mental advantage to outsmart the trucker because number one I mean the trucker has a minor advantage over him but number to he has a bigger advantage over the trucker that car can take curves out of better angles in a semi can so I mean he could have just drove and drove and drove until he was so far ahead of the trucker that's a trucker gave up

Not with the limited fuel for the car. Remember that a semi has enough fuel for about 1,000 miles, the car has maybe 250 miles of fuel, and gasahol to boot.

never did understand why the trucker supposedly targeted him, maybe his car reminds him of a guy who stole his wife or beat him up and humiliated him, or maybe he was bored with life and wanted to spice it up by a cat and mouse game.

The elevator music sucks. The movie from which this is from has music which keeps you in suspense, you hear the car driver talking to himself, engines screaming, tires squealing. The only thing worse than the music here is if we had heard the hooves of charging horses! Come on man!
