“That car isn’t just me, it’s all the people I’ve interacted with to get to this place,” says John Benton. “I bought this car at 23 years old, I didn’t have all the answers…My car is the result of all those little journeys, here and there…”
Now, John has his own shop that caters to classic Porsches, but it’s really about how he got to this point-a journey happened in his beloved 912.
“I’ve heard people say that my car is me. You know, when they see it, when they drive in it, they’re like, ‘Man this car’s you, it’s so obvious’,” he says. “That wasn’t my intent, but it’s neat to hear from people-even strangers-you know, ‘you built this car, it’s so obvious’,” he says.
His car had been found, driven, taken apart, repaired, restored, and loved over his many years of ownership, and the 912 really was his companion. “It was my daily driver…and weekend race car…” with modifications to suit both. Now, its heart is a “Very high-revving, twin-spark 1.7-litre, fuel injected 616 motor…” but to list off specs would do a disservice to Benton’s passion for these machines.
“Everything I know put into a car…” he says. The only thing missing is his friend and former business partner, John Coffee, who died earlier this year…but not before completing his opus, a Datsun 240Z prepared for the Peking-To-Paris Rally. “John just hit a home run,” says Benton “…it’s his legacy.”

I just want to take a moment and talk to the man behind this channel. I don't know who you are, but you have an amazing talent. I've been watching your videos for at least 2 years now, But I think this this video may take the cake in your work. As a designer and photographer myself, I can appreciate all the work you put into it and all the behind the scenes work staring at a computer screen for hours on end, Trimming video, editing the lighting and colors, editing the voice overs, watching the same video over and over again only to see how your minor changes look different in the bigger picture of the entire video. And that doesn't even include all the work you put into the video before shooting! People won't even realize just how amazing it is the fact that the guy was talking about his childhood in a VW bug... And you made a flashback scene! Just.. Wow! Your videos are so gorgeous and your hard work pays off so well! Thank you for your amazing channel! I hope I can meet you one day.

Couldn't of said it any better. As a photographer and aspiring videographer I watch videos like this all the time, but this one really stopped me in my tracks. The shots of the kid in the beetle combined with the music and voiceover genuinely gave me goosebumps. It takes me hours and hours of work to produce 2/3 minute videos of cars for my work, so I can't even imagine the process behind this, but what a feeling of achievement it must be once it's live. Seriously incredible work guys, best one yet.

+RollYourRock Sort of, once a year KZfaq runs an award event that people submit their choice of video in certain categories and the ones with the most votes gets awarded the trophy. Here is the wiki link about the awards and how it works: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KZfaq_Awards Now the problem is; what category do you place this video in. Inspirational, Automotive, Commentary, Series... there is just so many it works so well for.

In 1974, i was 15, My first car was a 1967 porsche 912, I was 15, this car needed lotsa TLC. I was able to fix it, with my best friend, mike, and Mike was a brilliant engineer (also 15 at that time) Mike could fix anything, even at 15. Sadly, my best friend passed this year. Mike was the best friend I could ever wish for. This porsche was just one of our fun projects. We then found a sunbeam tiger. Thankfully is still in his family. I miss you Micheal I will miss you forever. Thank you for all you have done for me.

I have a similar memory... I'm maybe five years old, I'm in the back seat of my uncles 911 and we're driving down Valencia St., between 20th and 16th. Aunt Jan looks concerned, but Uncle Tommy has a huge grin as he zigs and zags through traffic. 50 years later this experience is hard-coded into my memory. Literally, my most vivid memory.

+Petrolicious It is amazing when you see someone with the same connection to vehicles that you hope you have. I think this is one of the best videos that has been done on this channel to date. The cinematography is outstanding, the story, and the vehicles are wonderful. More please, and thank you for all the time it took to do this video. I have seen first hand how much work and effort goes in to getting just one of the stylized shots used in this video. Then this video is completely chocked full of them, it just mind blowing the time that was spent on this video, just to pop it out for the viewers to watch for free!

I could totally work for this guy. I view Porsche's in the same way. In 30 plus years of working on old VW's (slow ones, fast ones) and a few Porsche's I realize how wonderful it is to be alive to appreciate these pieces of art. I've had my own shops, and I can honestly say that money wasn't my motivating factor. It was bringing an aircooled car back to life, or optimizing it for the customer and having them call me later to say how much they enjoyed the vehicle since. Spending hours in prep, cleaning, imagining, visualizing what in my heart I felt it should feel, smell and sound like was my inspiration. Working till 2 in the AM didn't matter because it was about my love and commitment to something I loved as a child. This episode is very emotional for me. The teachings of my father towards German cars and VW's/Porches will carry on. My dad wanted me to play with dolls, but I wanted to turn wrenches.

I've watched this vid at least five times and can watch it over and over... I started looking for my 912 years ago starting in the 90s... I finally found my dream car in 2005 and purchased a true time capsule. The car? A 1976 Porsche 912e with 20k original miles. I found out you need to pursue your dream and I followed it with this car. It feels modern without all the electronics the cars have today but yet safe. Porsche produced the new version of its 912 for one year and then it disappeared. I feel blessed to own one of the last 4 cylinder air cooled Porsches made. If you feel the need do it because it may never happen....
