Hi anyone who’s reading this, I need help. If anyone who’s reading this knows a fair bit about goldfish I really need advice. I have one common goldfish I won at a fair (I know I shouldn’t have gotten him from there but I couldn’t walk away) and I have him in a 10 gallon tank which is the biggest tank I have space for but he seems happy in there. I did not cycle the tank as I didn’t know that’s a thing, he also has fin rot but I’m treating him and he’s fine with that, I don’t know what to do to fix my care as I’ve accidentally skipped all the necessary steps. I just caught him laying on the bottom of his tank which scared me because I thought he was dead but I tapped the glass and after a minute he swam away. I don’t know where to start, someone please help I’m scared I’m hurting him!!

I’m no expert but I can tell you this much you should get aquarium salt and do daily 100% water changes. Goldfish live for 15 years plus so expect to be in it for the long run, if I recall gold fish need about 56-60 gallons

@@Idk-ru7tf hi! Thankyou for your response however I have some questions. Why do I need aquarium salt if goldfish are freshwater fish? Also with the tank issue I am actually building a pond this spring so if I feel he is no longer happy in his tank I’ll be perfectly happy to relocate to the pond when he’s healthy! For the time being we’re doing weekly water changes as someone else has told me the tank should be cycled by now as it’s been running for around 5 months. I’m always open to change my care for the better though and I’m never gonna be cocky or upset if someone tries to help! :)

@@markjones6519 aquarium salt can be used to help with fish rot in the early stages and help with healing wounds if I recall its 1/2 tea spoons per gallon. cycling the tank isnt that important FOR NOW, keep ammonia at 0ppm nitrite 0 ppm and ph at 7.5. I wish you goodluck :)
