The Delta S4s produced around 650hp at 2.5 bar in late 1986 season. The 205 T16 produced about 600-700+hp depending on boost settings .... all this on 890kg of weight. Pure monsters.

@@philip_si nope, Peugeot's engine usually produced around 450 bhp, but power was reduced to 400 bhp for Safari Rally 1986, sometimes the power was increased to 480 bhp, maybe a little more, but never exceeded 500 bhp in rally.

Si signore! Come fai a sapere! Pochi parlano di questo dettaglio. La progressività della Peugeot nell'erogazione della potenza. La S4 necessitava ancora di sviluppo per renderla più maneggevole, solo Henri riuscì a padroneggiarla a costo di correre grandi rischi, e purtroppo con un esito pieno di sfortune data la totale mancanza di sicurezza passiva delle vetture a quel tempo. Alla Lancia non avevano ancora trovato il modo di collegare i due compressori (Turbo e Volumex) in modo controllabile, troppa coppia all'improvviso, il che significava che non potevano accelerare completamente finché l'auto non lasciava la curva. Bisogna tenere conto che nel 1986 non esisteva la gestione elettronica che hanno i motori odierni. Che invece la Peugeot andava benissimo, aveva un sistema anti-lag, di cui nessuno parla, molto simile alla geometria variabile che hanno oggi i diesel, chiamato "DPV system" che l'ingegner Jean Pierre Boudy portò dai motori Renault della F1, che impediva al soffio del gigantesco turbo dell'auto di avere un ritardo.Questo che rendeva la vettura molto facile da guidare, con grande agilità nelle curve, soprattutto quelle lente. Non lo dico io, lo dicono Kankkunen, Salonen e Saby che gareggiarono con lui nella stagione 86.
