This video is a little tribute to the Peugeot 206 WRC.
The first prototype of the car was made in late 1998, starting from the production model. The car started its adventures in the WRC in May 1999 during the Tour of Corse. But Peugeot officilay annunced that their car would compete in 1999 in order to finish its setting up and would head for the WRC manufacturer's title only in 2000.
The mission was a complete success: in 2000 Peugeot managed to win the WRC manufacturer's title and, thanks to their great work, permitted to Marcus Grönholm to win the 2000 WRC championship.
The car is moved by a 2.0 4-cylinder turbo charged engine with a power (limited) of 300 Bhp @ 5250 rpm and a torque of 635Nm @ 4000 rpm. Full time four wheel drive (with a 50%-50% F-R torque distribution). For the transmission, it has a fiive speed Peugeot/X-Trac non synchronized, sequential shift gear box.

I did not believe the sound was true, I heard the bangs in the Dirt Rally 2.0 but I did not believe that the real car did the same. Awesome

Is true. I saw this car in 2001. The loud detonations in every gear change.. that is exactly the sound I can remember

I own a 206 GTI 180 (same engine as WRC model, mostly detuned and unmodified though), even without a turbo, with the stock exhaust, it pops and bangs

Peugoet wanted to bring the 306 for they WRC entry in 1999. But Peugoet Sport wanted the 206, but it was to short for FIA WRC length regulations. So they just made huge front and back bumpers to get the length they needed. And as we now, IT WAS THE RIGHT DESICISION TO USE THE 206 INSTEAD OF THE LONGER 306!!! Peugoet Sport was so genius, one of my favourite WRC cars ever. Great tribute, great video and great sound, usual BOZZY quality :D

This car was the World Champion WRC car 3 times following in 2000 & 2001 & 2002!!! This is one of the greatest Rally car ever and again a French Rally car in the TOP of History of the WRC ^_^

A near-perfect representation :D I would only like to add a "*bbbrtrtrtrtrtrtrt*chirpchirpchirp" at the end, for the anti-lag kicking in. Or maybe like this: Nieeeennn *BAM* Niieeeeeennnn *BAM* Niiieeeeeeeeennnnnn *BAMbbbrtrtrtrtrtrtrt* -chirpchirpchirpNieeeennn... I think that would be spot-on ;-)

its normal in a 206 shooting like that. i have a 206 1.6 16v stock, i just removed cathalitic converter, central muffler and put a flowmaster 40series in the back, and also i installed a k&n conic intake filter, and its just enough to hear and see those backfires !! its crazy !!

lupus caelum yeah, but what i mean is that the stock 206 engine has overlap in its valves, and without turbo you can hear and see all that backfires

lupus caelum anti-lag & turbo has nothing to do with popping. even old cars pop. the popping is the result of fuel after burn. The gases in your exhaust are still flammable before it go's into a catalytic converter. with the correct timing, you can get the popping and gurgeling. Tough popping indicates a bad timing in the engine. Race/rally cars dont have catalytic converters. Turbo anti-lag is just as it says, the negate the lag the turbo has. You could say that a race car's engine never stops burning fuel and because of that you have fuel over flow, the ignition flames exit the cylinder chamber to ignite the over flow. resulting in you hearing the pop that actually only should be in the cylinder chamber. As f your cylinder chamber is never closed. For a race car its fine, for a street car it isnt. Race cars aren't there to last and usually only last a day or 2(with out maintenance). Now i dont care if the comment is months old, im just putting it out there.

I always wondered if Peugeot was ever going to release a WRC homologation car like they did with the 205 long ago. A 4WD, high power version like seen here, only street legal.

The rapid "squeaking" noise you hear on rally cars is wastegate flutter. Sorry for being 8years late with the answer.
