The Peugeot e 208. Is this the start of a new chapter for Peugeot? Their first all electric car is a small one but packs a massive punch to the other mainstream manufacturers. A very tactile, neat little package with a strange looking steering wheel!

Welcome back Ryan. We had a petrol 208 back in 2013 and it was a great, nippy and reliable little car. This e208 looks gorgeous and the interior is nicer than its Citroen and Vauxhall sisters. So I'm going to call it Cinderella. Take care buddy. Keep well.

One question if I may - You mentioned about how quiet the e208 was but that other EV's you've tested are quieter. Can you specify what cars they were please? Thanks.

You're right to complain about touchscreens. You take your eyes off the road at least twice to do anything. Bring back the three rotary knobs that you can always find without looking - usually first time.

A very fair review of this car, I still think EVs have a long way to go but they’ve got less than 10 years to become mainstream and more readily available. I hope they do drop in price too, the problem that I see is that EVs are dirt cheap to run (at the moment) but and it is a big but is that most people buy a vehicle on finance and I really can’t imagine finance companies lending them the extra money that an EVs costs to purchase as the running costs do not concern a finance company. Anyhoo good to see you making another video 👍

Great to see you back. Good, and honest, review. Being particularly long bodied I suspect that steering wheel "feature" would drive me nuts. Nice looking car but I've seen other videos saying it can't match the range of the Zoe ZE50 that I'm driving now. Granted, the Pug has 100kw charging.

Well done for reviewing the lower end model, I’m fed up seeing motoring journalists always reviewing the most expensive models. The old ‘ yes it’s another £5k for the premium car but it’s worth it’ reviews’ . With petrol and diesel you get more powerful engines etc, most EV’s it’s the same battery and power train, bigger screen and slightly faster charging - not good value for most of us!

Had my E208 GT Line for 7 months and covered 8,000 miles trouble free. Never been a fan of Peugeot and shied away from them. However test drove an E208 on a whim and was blown away by the design architecture and build quality compared to the Zoe I was considering. I was initially sceptical of the small steering wheel but for me at six foot tall it works great. When I get in other cars now it feels like driving a bus with a huge steering wheel! In summer in mixed driving the best I got out of a charge was 190 miles with 5% battery remaining. Winter about 150 miles so meets all my needs. Downsides are that the app is a bit flaky, you need 50% remaining battery to precondition and the reversing camera is very poor quality. Aside from that it’s a winner and the 100kW liquid cooled charging makes long journeys a breeze.

I've just signed for a 208e GT (5000km) and have been having second thoughts. Your comment reassures me that I am doing the right thing. I live 'off-grid' and most of the time the car will be charged with our 'surplus' solar electicity. Driving for free seemed very attractive and made me buy an EV. This is a big change for me as I'm swapping my Mercedes SLK250 for a Peugeot!! 🙏🤣

Peugeot lost me as a customer because of the display/steering wheel layout. I just can’t get it set without cutting through the display. I’ve loved every Peugeot I’ve had but I can’t get on with their current design on the dash. Lovely looking car & if they go back to a more conventional layout I’ll have one. Thanks Ryan.

Good to see your channel back in action again Ryan. Peugeot designs have come on leaps and bounds the last few years but your review shows the compromises made when an EV is based on an ICE platform. Rear seat space would be better if this were a clean-sheet EV design, along the lines of VW’s MEB platform. Designers would have much more scope. PSA’s policy of running ICE and EVs down the same production line is interesting and their initial sales, especially here in France this year are encouraging but when they come up against a ‘pure’ EV alternative they are likely to lose out in comparison tests.
@EVOpinion
@EVOpinion 3 жыл бұрын
I think they are covering the bases. If EV takes off then up the production of it doesn’t then nothing lost.
@kiae-nirodiaries1279
@kiae-nirodiaries1279 3 жыл бұрын
@@EVOpinion I would argue that EV take-off is not a matter of ‘if’ but of ‘when’. At the start of your video you suggest that has already happened this year. I would agree. I have read the PSA’s thinking on this, they say they can ‘turn the wick’ up and down on the production line based on demand for EVs. This sounds like a sensible way to introduce EVs onto the production line but if your competitors, VW for example, have a factory making only EVs then PSA will soon be at a disadvantage. This is because the point at which Wright’s Law kicks in is pushed back. If you are not familiar with Theodore Wright’s work it’s worth a Google. This identifies the points at which you benefit from the cumulative effects of scale economies which would come sooner if EVs only were made on the line. Outside of Tesla and a few Chinese firms no company has experience of how to make money from making EVs. This is the challenge now for all ‘traditional’ OEMs but at some point they will all have to bite the EV bullet, design their cars as BEV’s from the ground up and not run them down the same production lines as their ICE products.

Thanks. The point of the steering wheel size and shape is to have the display higher and more in line with the road. It kind of makes a head up display redundant. But yes, it's a matter of taste. We like it in the 3008.

Welcome back. I pretty much agree with everything you say. However I'm one of those that detests that small wheel, I had to drive an ICE 3008 as a hire car and I absolutely hated that small wheel, like you I set the steering wheel low but it was horrid, so much so that I'd never buy a Peugeot with a small wheel. How did you find the build quality of the piano key controls, I felt that the surround was really flimsy and flexed, another reason for me to avoid the latest Peugeot's.

For context it's a 2017 model and has done 15,000 miles I will soon be going back in the office, the distance is 40 miles there and 40 back. Great review. As to the car, for the price, range is the biggest downside. I have test driven the the DS crossback e-tense & Peogeot e2008 and both have design faults. I am 6 ft and either hit my legs on Peugeot steering wheel getting in or when raising the wheel obscuring the instruments. Shame, as it is great to drive, but design could be improved.

Thanks for a brutally honest review. I'm due to shortly get an ex demo Allure e208 so naturally I was riveted by your commentary. What dismayed me (of the near fifty other reviews I've read yours is the only one to comment on what follows) was your observation that the car you drove had rattles... I can't abide the slightest such noise in vehicles but, repeat, yours was the lone offender so hopefully my fears are unfounded in this connection... It's fascinating that, again, you're virtually the sole tester to opine that other BEVs are quieter than the Pug... Oh dear... Given the majority view to the contrary on these two points I'm perplexed.
@EVOpinion
@EVOpinion 3 жыл бұрын
Please don’t be worried. I think the point I was trying to make is there are quieter EVs (but not at this price bracket) but this one is not noisy. You will be very happy with it 😁👍
@DavidHughes-op6zl
@DavidHughes-op6zl 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that reassurance. Dare I trouble you further (with apologies)? I currently drive a year old Zoe which, as you know, has an electronic brake. Period. However, I'm thoroughly perplexed because I see that on the e208 I'm shortly getting it features a further p a r k i n g brake... I haven't a clue as to when you use THAT blooming thing in, apparently, conjunction with the electronic brake. It seems that P brake has a press button release mechanism either side of it, ie left and right. Please explain in simple terms (I have a birdbrain when it comes to tech matters) exactly when I have to operate that blessed thing. It seems an unnecessary, complicated extra feature to cope with... I'm utterly confused about it. Trouble is I'll have a 580 mile round trip via which to do the px on collection day so the amount of time available at the dealership will limit the amount of questions I can ask. Hence my putting the problem to your goodself to please (fully) clarify. (With the Zoe it's dead simple with just that one electronic brake. No problem.)

Near side charge port in U.K.? I don’t understand why more EV’s don’t have this. If you’re potentially roadside parking it makes a huge difference having the charge port pavement side.
@EVOpinion
@EVOpinion 3 жыл бұрын
I think the position is dependent on your circumstances. I have a driveway and find it easy to nose up to my charger and plug in at the front. My neighbour has rear near side port but doesn’t like reversing onto the drive so the cable is stretched around the car. I also take your point about road side parking. I guess it will come into your decision making when choosing a car?
@chillmeister
@chillmeister 3 жыл бұрын
@@EVOpinion Yes, very much dependent on circumstances. I drove past some lamppost chargers the other day on a road where you can’t park facing the wrong way (and indeed in some countries this is illegal). I couldn’t work out how anyone could safely plug into an offside charge port. Of course the real answer is likely simply not to install chargers in those places rather than it being a real problem.

The front looks over-fussy to me. I don't know why manufacturers insist on having these huge grille's when they are not necessary, they must surely affect the aerodynamics of the car. @2:40 if I was buying this car that mismatch rear bumper would make me wonder if it has been rear ended. If it hasn't then this is shocking quality for a new car. Same deal @ 22:30, is it just a trick of light I wonder? Nevertheless it would annoy me no-end. The rear is the best part of the rear design of the car imo,vthe rear lights are reminiscent of the Fiat barchetta with a flavour of the mustang mach E. The charge point door looks like they made an error cuting out the hole,vit looks stupid intruding into the wheel arch. The designer should have their employment terminated for this effort. The interior, as mentioned, does look modern and refreshingly different and looks quite chic. I'm not a fan of black/grey themes though, I would prefer contrasting colour choices to brighten up the interior. I do not like the tiny steering wheel at all, I have tried a friend's peugeot with this wheel and became irritated very quickly having to duck around the top to see the dials and the continued 'wobble' whenever turning it. Keep-fit windows in the rear😂 Overall it is a decent car if you can live with its quirks....but not for me. I like your different camera angles, what camera are you using in the rest, is it 360deg? Another enjoyable review, thanks Ryan.
