Well said. TDS is the first thing to consider. Adjusting the PH of high TDS water only works in the short term. If you were to adjust a Ph 7.5 to 6.5 where the TDS is high let’s say 250ppm the adjusted waters Ph would slowly increase again. Try it in a barrel. The only way to reduce high TDS effectively is to pass it through a Reverse Osmosis unit and add Cal mag or similar, possibly you tap water to bring the TDS back up to around 75ppm. (That’s what I use ). Reverse osmosis is a very wasteful system so can be expensive on the water bill. Reverse Osmosis water is stripped bare and has almost zero TDS or iron and magnesium etc. Hence the need to bring it back to being usable for our plants. So here I pass our water of TDS 255 ppm and a ph of 7.4 through a reverse osmosis unit, it gives me water of TDS 8, Ph 6.5. I mix three parts Reverse osmosis water with one part of carbon filtered tap water. I then have a very useable water of around TDS 75 PPM and a PH of around 6.8. As I said before this can have a low Magnesium and Iron content so I supplement with the addition of Cal mag once or twice a year. If you want really good quality container grown plants (Bonsai) this will the best thing you could do for your trees if your suffering from poor water quality and or salt build ups. Reverse osmosis water can be a little wasteful and expensive if on a water meter but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone with Bonsai trees of quality. Maybe just make enough for those special trees. For me I wouldn’t be without it.

so all you have to do is to try to make an ionization of those salts instead of use very pure water. But i dont know what impact has the soil conductivity on tree feeding and nutriment absorption.

@@lemelon6774 I have tried Polycarbonate filters. It has its problems. It sequestrates( locks out ) almost all trace elements, iron and magnesium. you will find yourself with deficiencies very quickly, trust me I know. 😀 you will have to supplement a lot. It’s not worth the trouble. I use the one I have left over from my trials two years ago attached to a hose to clean the car, that’s all I would use that system for.

This vid has created more questions than answers. It's actually annoying to watch, the whole time I just want one question he's basically asking himself answered. What does a "harsh" fertilizer look like on npk scale? Is it harsh because over application? Or is it harsh because the combo of strong npk and hard water? What is excessive fertilizing in this regards? What does easing off the fertilizer mean, instead of weekly, every 10 days, 2 weeks? Most people's water is alkaline, what's the solution? RO water system? Treated tank you pull water from? Ph buffer seems like a product that once you miss a dose you revert back to 0 basically making all the previous treatments useless, is this true? How do you flush the salts out of a bonsai pot/fertilizer? Is there a scheduled maintenance for this flushing you can do a few times a year? Are there soil additives that can be used to mitigate this? Probably good to walk into a conversation on PH with an agenda next time, this was too "winged it" to be useful.

Yes. Lots of talk about causes but very little about solutions.

It seems the solution starts at testing your soil and knowing where it is deficient. Then, know what type of soil is best for your plant. Adjust as needed, right?

@@thepaperstaggering yes, of course but there are is no talk about levels you should be looking for, ect. All very vague and right when you think he's going to jump into the meat and potatoes ... SIDE TANGENT... oh gawd, save us.

In a way he's giving you suggestions what to research further ... The key term he actually repeated a few times - "total dissolved solids" or TDS, put simply the total salinity of what's in your watering can (tap water hardness and fertilizer combined). I'd actually consider the device to measure that more important than that for pH, but you can find cheap kits with both. How much to shoot for depends on how you water and fertilize, also where you're in the growing season. If you're worried you may have salt buildup in your soil, just drench the pot with pure water (rain/RO/distilled ...) until water runs out at the bottom. You can then test the runoff for TDS if you want. Personally I have my plants in a fired clay granulate that's totally inert, so I can water and feed similar to hydroponics. Typically I hit the pots with a fertilizer solution of about 1500 μS/cm every few days.

We continue to wait for subtitles in Russian. It is a shame that you cannot fully enjoy this wonderful content due to the fact that the knowledge of those who are engaged in setting up videos is much weaker than those who come out with useful information about bonsai.
