When I listen to this song I always think about how hard it can be to be a human sometimes… how uncomfortable it can be to be in this body in this strange world, and life and death… it’s just all so confusing and beautiful and terrible at the same time. it’s insane to think about. To me this song has always invoked a feeling of accepting what is, especially when your world is collapsing around you. Not that it’s going to get better or worse, but that it is what it is and you as a person have come to terms with it.

I am absolutely in love with the artistic symbolism in this music video. Whatever producer made this honestly thank you, you did an unbelievable job and I'm sure you don't receive enough credit for how incredible this symbolism is. I love it

@@YouNolf of course, to me it demonstrates her fall from the family and becoming in love with the world (he touching the false wonderful gold earth then rubbing it onto herself then turning black and demonic) while the husband tries to be strong (the hammer scene) and save her, I think the washing away scene is to symbolize the "milk and honey of purity" trying to save her then at the end with the child having suffered enough he shoots her and you seen her body is evil and black and demonic but her insides are still gold which to me was SUCH an amazing allegory. This....out of all the music videos I've ever seen....I do believe is more than likely my absolute favorite of all time. I talk about it constantly online, I am very impressed with the artistic interpretation and the extreme level of symbolism and for me anyway it was very emotional for me since my son was very very badly abused almost to the brink of death at the age of 2 by his mother who has still been very damaging to his life due to drug addiction. This video spoke to me on many levels. If you haven't seen the weekends video "lost in the fire" I highly recommend it too for artist symbolism, the couple under the cloth holding their light together to give each other shielded light from the darkness is AMAZING. So is the music video in gesaffelstein's video for "hate or glory"....It's extremely good demonstrating how the thirst for power corrupts and kills....again symbolised by covering the main character in gold

It's perfectly fine; I do prefer to balance it with a bit of left brain, too, especially because the people who made the video studied and created a project for it, so there's an underlying structure behind it that I feel would go to waste if not given the attention it deserved. It's there to be picked up and appreciated imho. Otherwise it's just a Barnum/Forer party with no depth whatsoever.

People stare into mirrors all the time when they are on drugs. It's a contemplative thing. Some people love to stare into a mirror and think while drugging, while others are sketched out by the experience and have to avoid them. Either way, mirrors and drugs do have a relationship.

I love the fact that when I used to listen to Phantogram many years ago before this song went viral and I played some of their music around people I was told "I have bad taste in music" and then this song goes viral several years later...love that. Am I bitter yes but I am also glad that Phantogram finally got the recognition that they deserve because they've been slept on for so long.

Im 61. Grew up with the best music in 3 decades. All started to go downhill in the 90s musically speaking, except for a few nuggets here and there. But of course, deep, real, heartfelt and creative artists with the best vibes can't be all gone, right? Right. Im glad to find music I can show my contemporaries and say ha! How about this song! Weird though, I found it 10 years after it came out.......... hidden in the trash, a shiny gem... I'm 21 again.
