The Phantom celebrates 20 years of revenge in 2021, so we decided to take a trip into the Kenny Archives to find the original 2001 POV animation for Phantom’s Revenge! While mostly the same, you can spot a few differences between this original concept and the Phantom as we know it today. This video also features the original theme composed for Phantom’s Revenge. 20 years later, The Legend Lives.

It’s great to see these early proposed elements in motion; for years all we had was the early render on the 2001 park map. I noticed that double-up and the extended Thunderbolt tunnel right away, and I much prefer the airtime hills on the final product!

This is fantastic! I always heard the rumor that the second hill originally would have a double up. This just confirms it! Even without, Phantom is a perfect coaster! Onto 20 more years!

Ah yeah! I remember the promo content with the tunnel right before the fast turn past the turtles from way back in the day! Always thought it would have been cool, but I like what we have now since you get to see more of the Thunderbolt, which is always a good thing! Very nice and nostalgic video!

I remember reading that there was supposed to be a double up, going up the second hill. IIRC the straight section wasn't quite long enough to do it without being too forceful.

I remember the construction of the ride and they had the double up in the concept, and I was confused where the double up was. Why did they remove it?

I didn't know that was in the original plan and my guess is it would've been kind of rough or jarring so they decided to have it smoothed out.
