The scripts and general character I gave the father were based on the letter Rin receives at the end. His wife, Rin's mother died, and so he and his daughter were alone together for a while. He was never really okay, and persevered for his daughter's sake, but when she was in danger, he acted. In the end, he was a good man, and a good father.
Stuff like this really likes to pull at my heartstrings. It's really rewarding to work with.
