This kitchen is so photogenic now!! It absolutely photographs like the best IG kitchens. You will really have everything ironed out by the time the “real” renovation comes around. If a person can stand waiting, that’s the way to renovate and not waste money. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people say, “If I had it to do over, I’d do...”

It looks amazing! I love that you show the bits that work and the bits that don’t. The camera work made it hard to watch but seeing the kitchen in detail was worth it!

Love the kitchen, especially the stove area. I do like the dark cabinets, but you have lots of natural light so its not bad at all. I couldn't do it in my kitchen. I liked how you showed bad things too. I am working on a kitchen plan and two things I found out was 1) don't place seating near stoves and 2) be sure nothing hits something else when it's open. BTW, the camera moving was a tiny bad, but it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker in watching the whole video.

Y’all need to figure the camera stuff out. I love the angles but I feel like a phone would have taken better video (unless it was a phone 😂). I’m happy to see how y’all are working with those countertops. They look just like mine that I’ve always hated. You’ve given me a lot of ideas.

I think you two did an amazing job ! The faucets we're genius, I have never heard of anyone doing that. I understand the functionality issues, it's a shame you must do a phase 2, but you won't regret it. I love the hand thrown plates! Do you mind sharing where you bought them? Fantastic!

The constant blur in and out was totally obnoxious and made it hard for me to watch. But I love their content so much that I hung on. Julia, I totally love what you did with this kitchen and I really think it will help people get ideas who can't afford a whole kitchen renovation. Thanks for sharing!!!

Great, moody colour! It's a bit post-Edwardian...especially with the copper accents. I love the bell in the range nook - are you able to share your source, or tell us what it's called (dinner bell??).

I love the kitchen. Are you just going to flip flop the seating and the sink in the island? Put the sink where the seating is and put the seating on the other side.

It would be great if you could take a step back and film the entire kitchen first so that we could see it from a different view. Only then you do the close-ups/walk-through. Or you could show the whole kitchen area lastly. Either way. Just an idea 😊

Love you guys and the phase one!!! I think you need to work on the autofocus settings (or use it) and get a gimbal. It's so hard to watch and a bit jarring. It definitely was distracting.

Just one question, slightly off-topic. Reading your blog, you refer to your house as a 'cottage'. What is the definition of a cottage in American English? In British English, a cottage is always very small, usually pretty dark and traditional, almost the polar opposite of your house! Plus, it's really interesting to note your choice of stone cladding for the exterior (on your blog); in the UK, stone cladding is considered really unauthentic - either your house is stone-built or it's not and it's the opposite of cool or stylish to fake it. Cultural differences, I guess. Love the kitchen especially how your re-purpose and re-finish in order to update - it looks amazing.

I think in the US we usually also think of cottages as small, but I think Julia and Chris are using it as a jumping off point in terms of architectural features. Here is how Julia explained the choice to use cottage style as their inspiration on their blog: "In the end, we’re going to be leaning into the tudor/cottage style on the interior with a modern twist, of course, (see all of our fun ideas here!) and we settled on the hashtag #cljcottage since it fit the charm of the property so well. Cottages generally feature asymmetrical architecture, steeply-pitched roof, natural materials like stone or brick for texture. A prominent roofline and dormers, shutters, arched doorways, stone paths and are usually on acreage. (Our home sits on 3.5 acres)." The kitchen is beautiful but please refilm an overview video with auto focus turned off. It was dizzy to watch and difficult to see the great details. In any case love your channel!

Couldn’t finish watching because of the camera work! Stop down the aperture for a greater depth of field, and you’ll have an easier time with the focus.

@@chrislovesjulia I think that style works better on short B-roll shots (the zoom, pan, in and out of focus) but it is so distracting and jarring when you are trying to follow what you are pointing out and showing. I traded in my Canon Mark III for a Sony A73 solely for the video autofocus capabilities and stabilization both in camera and as an option with the lenses. Love y'all. I understand experimenting!!

that's why they're actually renovating it in phase 2, all this was meant to be was for aesthetics so they just painted and moved some things around (because it had to look good for a photoshoot)

JADE it was a paid shoot for a brand so it had to look good, plus now they get to put off the actual renovation for a bit longer :)
