In this essay Carl Jung discusses the often undesirable consequences of pyschotherapy, specifically in regard to megalomania and the feeling of inferiority as the result of assimilating the contents of the unconscious mind. Read by Gregg Boethin.

No wonder this is fascinating material; I did not realize, initially that this is an Audiobook of Jung's writings! I could spend all my remaining years reading/studying/thinking/understanding Jung - especially after wasting much time in classical Freudian Psychoanalysis. Well, at least I understand the significance of dreams. I got that at 17, when I read Freud's Interpretation of Dreams. Not understanding a word of it, I knew that it was IMPORTANT. LOL I can learn more about who I am, now - or whom I have become. I did learn much from my original analysis: Dr. B probably saved my life. I was his training Analysand.

To all those who are causing suffering in this world, directly or indirectly: Heed your dreams at night, those nightmares that you most assuredly are having are imploring you to change -before it’s too late… The quality of our dreams is both a reflection of our thoughts and actions as well as a general foreshadowing of the fate of our souls in the next life...A nightly, temporary karma that beckons us to change - for the good - so as to avoid a more permanent karma❤️‍🔥 Beauty(🌷)+Complexity(🌎) =Intent(❤️) The Figure 8 Analogy: An analogy on life, death, the dream-state and the symbolism intertwined within the human experience. We human beings are not traveling in the abstract motion of a straight line towards death (for instance, the numerical straight line of say 1-89). Instead, we are moving in the motion of a figure 8. The Figure 8 is a natural repeating pattern that is divided into two halves and is thus the perfect symbol to represent the human life cycle and our two primary states of existence that we are continuously moving in and out of -the Awake state and the Dream state. When we awake from sleep we come full circle to when we fall back asleep (represented by the bottom half of the figure 8 )and when we go into the dream state we come full circle to when we awake from the dream state (represented by the top half of the figure 8 ). Upon death; the figure 8 of life untwines, but it’s not the body untwining from the mind that this analogy represents. It's two states of mind untwining to form a larger state of mind. (8-0) Because the awake state is really a state -of mind, with our body's physical reality "consciously" intertwined; and the dream-state is also a state of mind, with our body's physical reality "subconsciously" intertwined. Therefore; upon death, these two states of mind untwine to form a “larger” state of mind. A state that has all the potentialities of the dream world (flying, telepathy, psychokinesis, etc) combined with all the actualities of the awake world(nature, form, bonds, etc). This I refer to as the transitional analogy. While conceiving The Figure 8 Analogy, I realized life and death must be perceived -from one point of view- as seperate entities(the transitional analogy(8-0), but must also be perceived -from another point of view- as inseparable entities(the symbolic analogy👇), both of which are ultimately linked by the dream-state. The symbolic analogy consists of the untwined figure 8 of life/the 'circle of death’, if you will, which -abstractly- overlapps the ‘circle of life’/the Earth, with the overlappment representing the dream-state, like the common area in a venn diagram, and implies that the dream state is just as much a part of life as is of death ~by which semi-explains precognitive dreams, prodromal dreams, "visitations" by deceased relatives, etc; for the dream-state has a foothold in the afterlife, and is based on the premise that “while our body sleeps, our dream state symbolically represents the state that awaits upon our body's ultimate rest.” In other words, while we are lying down and sleeping/dreaming, this natural process symbolizes where we go when we're ultimately lying down/dead -to a place "like" our dream-state...A state "of mind” with our body's physical form+bonds eternally engrained and intertwined. 👁~8~👁

The first 8 mins (how much I’ve listened to so far) of descriptions of godlikeness sounds like the reactions of an Introvert and Extrovert based on Jung’s psychological types. Particularly the Introverted Thinker and the self aggrandizement of suffering and sensitivity to disapprobation (disapproval often of a moral nature) and the Extroverted Thinker and the constant sharing of opinions to let go of doubts. Edit: yeah and now at 22:53 he describes what is essentially Introverted feeling (taking in collective virtues on himself) and extroverted Feeling (taking on collective vices on himself)

@@kirstinstrand6292 It’s been awhile so I don’t exactly remember my thought process, but I believe that when I was talking about doubt, it was aligned with what I believed to be the Extroverted Thinking mindset. I was referring to the description around 7:20. I find that Te tends to want trust at is bottom line more than the ‘truth’. While these tend to be in alignment, in clutch cases they tend to turn to the things in the world that prove themselves credible. The more other people believe in what they believe, the more that solidifies their hearts that they sit on top of something foundational. In this essay, Jung was talking about the effects of assimilation of the Unconscious and I felt that the behavior described at around that time (7:20 ish) fit Te in its more compulsive extroverted approach to a internal sense of value (Fi which would be the “unconscious” in this case) for an approach/idea.

Maybe one of the more interesting and wholesome humans to come out of europe. His last two or three paragraphs of his book Dreams Memories and Reflections is maybe the most honest and inspiring summing up of a career and life that I've ever read. If there is another side and we meet relatives I'm giving my crummy dad the boot and hoping Jung shows up instead, and my dog of course.

It sounds like the way the narrator reads Jung so very rapidly without pausing or giving nuance to the important parts of the text proves that he cares not much for the content but wishes to gain through monetizing from the works of someone else other than that of his own. This is a serious illness of his greedy soul that makes him rush his readings.
