Phil Castelini basically told Reds fans you have no choice to support us or we will pick up and move the team to another city. His remarks was one of the worst PR statements I have ever heard from a sports owner. I can tell you this,he won't be getting any of my money as long as the Castilini's have ownership of the Reds.

When he brought up the financials and not being able to compete it was also a slap in the face of the players who put their heart and soul into the game. We had players who LOVED this city and this team that they traded that I think would have stayed even if not offered the amounts that someone else could give them. If I go to a game I don’t give a shit about Castellini - it’s the team I care about. And who’s to say he didn’t pull this stunt as a reverse psychology move on the fans? I wouldn’t put it past him.

Bob made him backtrack what he said about moving the team somewhere else , MLB made a statement saying that they wouldn’t let the Castellini,s move the team because of the history of the team in MLB . The Cincinnati Reds happen to be the worlds first professional paid baseball team & are credited for starting MLB back in 1869 . Professional baseball started in Cincinnati but was played in the Eastern sea board way before 1869 . I happen to be from Cincinnati , I was born & raised here & I still live here , I have all my life & I’m a die hard Reds fan win or lose . I,ll back the Reds before I,ll back the Bengals & that’s because the Reds have more history in the MLB than the Bengals have in the NFL .

Yep, the Castellinis started in the late 1890s moving River barges of freight down the Ohio. We’re seeing a dysfunctional team that’s never been able to commit to anything and stick to it because Bob who was also born with a spoon in his mouth (though he may have started the produce division aspect of the family businesses I’m not certain) has absolutely zero concept of being told either bad news or just plain being told no. That’s why when he bought the team in ‘06 he fired then GM Dan O’Brien because at a meeting shortly after the press conference Dan tried to lay out a 5 year plan that he said would be needed to do to make the Reds competitive for the long haul to which Castellini angrily said ‘That’s not fast enough!’, two days later O’Brien was out. Other than kinda missing the mark on Bob this was a great rant and on point in every other aspect

@@kevinward6141 We peaked at 17th, only were there for two years, not 5. Reds tanked from 2006-2010, still bottom 10 in payroll throught the Bruce, Votto, Cueto, and BP window. Then tanked again until 2019. All we got was 2 years of "going for it", and even that was half assed. We sold our best bullpen arms before the season for nothing in return. I'm not expecting the team to spend like a top flight club every year. I'm even find with rebuilding when its necessary. We have been a team without direction since they took over. The Reds have been top 20 in Attendance every year in spite of a bad payroll and 29th market the entire time. @chasemartini7110
@chasemartini7110 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinward6141 Couple things: 1. You are talking the years where we "went for it" when talking Moose, Gray, and Castillo. When I say we tanked from 2006-2010 and 2014-2019, I'm talking about years where we were lucky to win 70 games and consistently had a bottom 5 payroll. Our reward for those 5 tank years of 2014-2019 was a ruined 2020 season where we got blanked in an expanded playoffs, and an 83 win season that was ruined by the jump thanks to the Castellini's crying poor and dumping Iglesias and Bradley for nothing before the season. 2. The Reds aren't that small market. They draw from Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, and Kentucky. We are consistently top 20 in attendance, and have a storied history and brand. No team in baseball has to operate like the Rays or Indians. Every MLB franchise is worth $1B+, and has seen their value more than double (in the Reds case, triple) since 2005. Every team has guaranteed revenues of 100M+ before ever selling a ticket or merchandise, thanks to TV contracts and revenue sharing. MLB is a guaranteed cash cow for billionaires, and fans are tired of it.

Sounds like the Reds are moving to Vegas. The first sign of a team move is trading away good players and dumping salary so when the team sucks as it eventually will, fans will not show up and the owner can then justify to the league that the fans don't care and to make money he needs to move the team. The problem is that he owns a business and can really do what he wants because he has the money and the ego to do so.

As a Tigers fan, you Reds fans will get no sympathy from me. I watched more bad baseball from 1992 to 2005 than you Reds fans have watched in your lifetimes. But here's the thing you Reds fans are missing: Every owner of every team thinks this way. Yours was just the first to say it out loud. And you know what? Castelini is right! Where else are you gonna go? I mean, you could always root for the woke Guardians instead. But here's what every owner of every sports team knows: Sports is an addiction! And it doesn't matter how bad the team is; and it doesn't matter how angry the fans get; because they still always show up to the games, by the concessions and overpriced merchandise, and/or watch the games on TV or the internet. And even if Reds fans backed up their talk of boycotting the team...and that's a big if...fan attendance would fall to low enough levels in order for the owner to move the team to Charlotte, Nashville, or any other city that wants a team. And the fans would have nothing at all. So, it's a lose-lose situation for Reds fans. My advice: Suck it up and support your team regardless like everyone else has to. Like I said, I've been a Tigers fan all my life, but you don't hear me crying and whining even though my team hasn't been relevant since 2012. There's no crying in baseball! Remember that.

How do you feel as a Tigers fan now considering the season they’ve been having? Does Al Avila need to go?

@@zachhoward9099 I've seen this horror story before when Randy Smith was the GM back in the mid 90's and early 2000s. As I mentioned in another post, the Tigers are like the economy: They good for a decade then bad for a decade and always have been. Right now, we're enduring a bad decade. So, like you Reds fans, I've gotta suck it up and support my team even though they're historically bad this year. And yes, Avila needs to go! I just don't know who would want this job nor who's available that's any better?

Can't believe people get so upset. It's baseball. It's the national pastime. Stop throwing temper tantrums and support the city and the team. Phil Castellini apologized for his statements and admitted he said what he said out of frustration. Most people who complain never go to games anyway.

What are yall mad about? They're a small market team that doesn't have the funds to compete with the big hitters... all they can do farm players and let them go. And if you're a fan.. you can't do shit. Either buy a ticket or not lol where ya gonna go ... sell the team where... it's not gonna be in Cincinnati
