My husband met/knew Phil whilst working at Shepperton Studios, before moving to the states. He had the highest regard for Phil- said Phil was an extremely talented, intelligent, hard working individual who always watched out for and helped others.

He's received a lot of flak over the years but nobody worked harder for their success. I read his bio last year, and in the 80's his workload was insane, running and touring a massive solo career while still somehow managing to tour and record with one of the world's biggest bands. He seems a down to earth guy who grabbed every opportunity that came his way.

My favorite Phil album is 'And Then There Were Three'. Phil's drumming on that LP is spectacular - full of rolling, liquid drum fills especially in The Lady Lies. Great musician and singer.

The man who inspired me to pick up drumsticks and use a practice drum pad at my maternal grandparents place. I only played in band in school and now I play guitar. But Phil is the reason I started learning an instrument. Thank you Mr. Collins! Nothing but the best to you sir!

In '85 I was in a music store and found a drum transcription book of Phil Collins songs. I was 15 at the time and was in school band and I could read music a little. I thought that wouldn't it be cool to go buy all the tapes that cover this book and learn how to play like Mr. Collins! I already had some of his tapes. I spent every cent i had on this little project and it turned into the best drum lessons I ever had! Still have that book and another that covers Genesis as well. Only regret was not getting to see him live. but, "not dead yet", right? He is a big influence for me. I ended up playing drums in the US Navy Bands for 20 years and i'm still jamming to songs! First time I heard Genesis was at my friend and fell in love, wow! Got all the LPs, drove my parents insane and now my grandchildren listen to the CD's that replaced the records and they love it! Best ever!

Ive introduced Phils music to my kids 7@8 we have a 1982 mk3 escort with a cassette player and we only play phils songs my son has cerebal palsy and loves it, my daughter plays football and has to play phil on the way to her football matches and on the way back we play "take me home"... thanks Phil 👍🏼

Hey Phil I would like to thank you very much for being so candid in this documentary . It help me personally so much with the way I was looking things I have been playing drums since I was 4 yrs old .You came on my radar in 1978 when another drummer I did NOT like that brought your album school band rehearsal .So I resisted so at first.But you won me over in time . I first started playing your songs in a top forty band. With "turn it on" then " Easy lover" was a wedding song for me at the reception. The made a honeymoon video where I used " take me home" for clips of the plane ride home from Maui. Something that just happen at the end of Oct. I became a drum instructor for The School of Rock" we had a jam with all the instructors & I brought my Roland SPD- 11 that night they wanted to play " Something in Air " when it got to intro part I nailed it perfectly . The room went crazy I had played that for years & had the sound in programmed in the machine.But I give U full credit for that. I just did my solo album after doing production & drums for the lasts 30yrs & sang for the first time out in where others could hear. It's doing much better than I thought .Put it out last Feb. was worried that it would tank,but the pandemic had everyone in listening to to music & got lucky people found it. My life has been parallel in many ways except your massive success .but still happy where I landed by the way many of my go to licks come from U !Thank you very much again! It always seemed to me that he is not a singer from the heart, but a perfect actor that plays a singer unbelievably well. And he is a clever businessman. His tour documentary is really good too.

That was the best documentary. I always knew Phil was a great guy...seeing him on stage so many times, it comes across. And seeing earlier Genesis interviews. But it was nice to see his friends and family confirm it. I loved this...I totally enjoyed it begin to end. His wife is beautiful. It's really a shame things turned so ugly to put it mildly between them. I think that's what broke him. I'm glad he's making a come back and I'll be there in New York to see it.

Jeez Genesis were my favourite band, in the 80,s i swear i must have "air drummed" "dance on a volcano" a thousand times, it was just magical, i did,nt know that he could sing just as good at the time, all the albums up until Duke", were fantastic. I was for a little while adddicted to "seconds out", there was nothing like it at the time, ahh, such happy memories.

That's what a lot of people don't realize, he was also a drummer in a Jazz/fusion group, Brand X. People who only know him for a string of hitsingles in the 1980s will be surprised it they hear of this. He also rehearsed in a never-to-be group of Robert Fripp, John Wetton and himself. Still, till this day the two songs of his that had an enormous emotional effect on me were hold on my heart and Another Day in Paradise. There is something about hold on my heart that is so evocative, it lures you in and just brings a wave of Peace over me when I feel troubled.

One hour and 34 minutes!!! I said to myself when I arrived here. Well there's no way I gonna chew that off. I'll just watch the first few minutes and move on...well here I am One hour and 34 minutes later...I really enjoyed that. And a big part of that is the burden of always being a fan of Genesis and Phil Collins and yet hiding it a bit because of this mysterious hatred and dismissal that floats about. I always took Phil as being exactly as this documentary supports through the words of Phil and his family and other musicians and all those who speak on this film. It's an odd Catch 22 kinda thing. Phil gets placed on a pedestal by those who know him because he doesn't want to be on the pedestal. But all the others think he revels in it and think he must believe he is so special and so the tearing down begins. Very unfortunate. I kinda liked the way Geldof says it on here and though gruff in his words it's probably true -basically: "he's a great ordinary brilliant dude but if he reads all his reviews and ruminates over them, he's an idiot" Well Phil's not an idiot but he sure doesn't need reviews to tell him he's a very good person as is better evidenced by the words of his children on here and the many others on here who know him from experience.

Really is sad to see him with Orianne now. Say whatever you want about him hooking up with someone so young, but he's hardly the first rock star to do so. And yes, I bet more often then not those women are gold diggers. Even so, there is a special place in hell reserved for Orianne. Phil took her back after she squandered the huge divorce settlement. He took care of her after she was practically paralyzed after a surgery. He's the reason she's able to go out and buy expensive cars and get drastic plastic surgery. How does she repay him? She gets married to another man in secret, moves him into Phil's house, hires armed guards to keep everyone out, and releases a lot of grotesque (and likely made-up) stories about how he's a pathetic old man who smells bad and can't get it up. This is the father of her children! I really hope she gets booted out of the house with her pockets empty, and that their kids side with their dad.

It says a lot about Mike and Tony that both lead singers of Genesis went on to have massive solo careers. They’re excellent judges of talent. They’re very smart guys.

As this was a trip, we pooled our $ together and had to wait (LP players were rare AF in 1993.) a whole week. That listening party changed my 15 year old friends. This was not the ‘nother day I’m paradise man. This was a man to be respected b/c he is both a craftsman and an artist.
