Sadly though, performing together with Led Zeppelin in Philadelphia was a rather underwhelming experience for him, because the other drummer, Tony Thompson, saw him as a rival at this (for Tony) big occasion of Led Zep's reunion gig and musically 'didn't let Phil in', so to speak; Hence Phil can be seen several times during that performance just stopping to play altogether.
@chrisstory563
@chrisstory563 2 жыл бұрын
@@mightyV444 I have no doubt he really wasn't having a good time in that performance and Led zeppelin was not very happy with the performance as a whole. they gone so far is to forbid any footage to be in a compilation video of Live-Aid performances I think around 2 decades or so ago. Led Zeppelin did in fact made up for that when they perform again in the Atlantic records 40th anniversary a few years later. a few things to keep in mind Live-Aid was pledge with some backstage drama and some minor technical problems. Thownson twins almost suffered a fiasco, The Who got cut off one or twice. Bono pulling some fan who was getting dangerously crushed. not to mention Bod Geldof was getting extremely pissed off that the money wasn't coming in sooner and threw a fit on television out of frustration. not to mention there was some kind backstage war going on in Philadelphia

Phil Collins is one of the greatest composers in the modern world. Nobody will ever change my mind on that. Almost all of his songs were hits. His step-up into the front man for Genesis was a power-up for the band in my opinion. His solo efforts were all good too. The man is a helluva good drummer as well as mulit-Instrumenalist. I don't care what time it is and where I'm at if I hear Phil Collins I'm stopping and singing along. Not sure why I love him so much except to say I was born in 79' so most of my early childhood was 80's and I think Phil just brings me back to that wonderful simpler time.

Jamel check out a song, "I Know There's Something Going On", by Frida( a member of Abba). Off her solo album that Phil Collins produced, drummed and sang back up on it. The song was world wide hit going top 5 in 15 countries. Due in no small part to Collins iconic reverb drums. In that late 70s to early 90s it seemed everything Phil Collins touched turned to gold. He was everywhere, Genesis, Solo, playing with or producing, Frida, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Philip Bailey, Clapton, The Who, David Crosby, starred in a movie, Disney sound tracks, ect. He was Everywhere. Anyway, see what you think.

Hi Jamal from New Zealand. I work for a nationwide radio network in NZ, playing a lot of the older music that you've react to. I discovered your reaction video's some months ago and was instantly touched by your passion for the music and in some cases the music and artists you have discovered for the first time. Personal favourite reactions include Boz Scaggs, the Doobie Brothers (yes the look on your face when you heard Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting" and connecting that to Warren G was hilarious) and your friend Christopher Cross. The way you have also brought your own brothers into your musical journey and the joy I see on your face and their's is wonderful to watch. As a musician, broadcaster and someone who shares my love of music with listeners all over NZ each week, thank YOU for what you do, for sharing your passion with us and for telling so many people around the world that the colour of your skin doesn't matter. As you said when you reacted to Kenny Rogers "Lady" and also the beautiful video of Kenny and Lionel Richie singing together, the brotherhood is strong and if you can sang...you can sang! Keep posting Jamal, keep sending that smile and that love out to the world. We sure need it brother. All the best from NZ. Mark

If you haven't already you should read or get the audiobook for his memoir "Not Dead Yet". I am about halfway through and it's so good. Absolutely worth the read/listen.

Phil also played drums for Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton at Live Aid - he played Stairway to Heaven and Layla on the same day.

July '85 . I was 15 an I remember that Saturday because when i was at the electronics store putting another down payment on my Boom Box ( yeah thats right) and of course they had a few TV'S playing Live Aid and Madonna was on Stage during that afternoon singing Holiday . I mean yeah i watched the Live Aid concert , i wasnt enamored with it because i was too into rap at the time . Lol probably just like u Jamal .
