A song from Phil for Good Friday. We may be in our own homes but we are still one Body and He is the head. Peace.

Phil I questioned Gods Love for me one day years ago and He showed me a vision of Jesus on The Cross it was worse than The Passion . Oh how He Loves Us Brother . Hang tight it's getting close.

O sacred Head, now wounded With grief and shame weighed down Now scornfully surounded With thorns, Thine only crown How art Thou pale with anguish With sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish Which once was bright as morn! What Thou, my Lord, has suffered Was all for sinners' gain Mine was the transgression But Thine the deadly pain Lo, here I fall, my Savior! 'Tis I deserve Thy place Look on me with Thy favor Vouch safe to me Thy grace Sacred Head now wounded Sacred Head with shame weighed down What language shall I borrow To thank Thee, dearest Friend For this Thy dying sorrow Thy pity without end? O make me Thine forever! And should I fainting be Lord, let me never, never Outlive my love to Thee! Sacred Head now wounded Sacred Head with shame weighed down O sacred Head, now wounded With grief and shame weighed down Now scornfully surounded With thorns, Thine only crown How art Thou pale with anguish With sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish Which once was bright as morn! How does that visage languish Which once was bright as morn! Sacred Head now wounded Sacred Head with shame weighed down _________________________________________ The Story Behind O Sacred Head Now Wounded The words to this most beautiful hymn were penned by Bernard of Clairvaux who lived from 1091-1153. Bernard founded the Cistercian order of monks in the early 12th century. The words come from his poem Salve Mundi Salutare. The poem had seven sections, each focusing on a different part of Jesus' body: his feet, knees, hands, side, breast, heart and head. Paul Gerhardt, a German hymn writer from the 1600s translated the last section of the seven from Latin into German. Several men have been credited for the translation into English. The music comes from Hans Leo Hassler, who wrote it for a funeral. The hymn appears in a 1656 hymnal. Johann Sebastian Bach used the tune 5 times throughout St. Matthew's Passion. Apparently, he loved the tune, because he also used it in 5 cantatas and in his Christmas Oratorio.

LaserMark There’s a Cistercian Monastery nearby in Monks Corner, SC. They have a wonderful retreat center for all Christians and are self supporting by selling eggs and some produce.

There is so much music around that it is extremely hard to decide what to play, but you can never lose with Father Bach. I bought a real nice Martin to play at my cabin up in Appalachia and for 4 years, I just sat on the porch and played through Bach. I cannot really put the experience into words except to say that it was overwhelming. So I always sit up and pay attention when someone like Phil joins in. Shalom

I've been listening to you Phil for 50 years now and you just keep sounding better and better. Thanks for posting this. "Erscheine mir zum Schilde, Zum Trost in meinem Tod, Und laß mich sehn dein Bilde In deiner Kreuzesnot! Da will ich nach dir blicken, Da will ich glaubensvoll Dich fest an mein Herz drücken. Wer so stirbt, der stirbt wohl. "

Hi Mr. Phil Keaggy. This is the 1st time I am writing to you. So many years ago (it seems), maybe I was 18 years old...we went to a music festival in MN (I think Spirit Festival...it could have been summer of 1998). I was standing with a crowd outside a building to hear your concert. The inside of the building was full...there wasn't room for more people inside...A man, a complete stranger, came directly up to me in the crowd and asked if I'd like to sit in the 2nd row inside of the building because there was an open seat. My sister who was standing outside with me told me to go inside for the concert. I cannot express adequately how much that meant to me. I thank God for his mercy that is forever. I have enjoyed listening to the music Jesus has given you to share for many years. Thank you. 😊

Wait a minute, 4 people didn't like this??? People have Issues. I don't know what there is not to like on any level but, even if you don't, why go out of your way to hit that down thumb? Just move on. There are far far worse things worthy of that kind of attention. I think these are the same people who can't wait to get on Yelp to rip some poor business because someone looked at them wrong during their meal. Beautiful rendition Phil! You're still the man!
