tango died when the founder of the studio Shinji mikami leaved the studio with alot of people directly after hifi-rush release. The studio as been an empty shell with no leader since hifi-rush release Arkane austin died when 90% of all veteran developper leaved after prey release and during the developpement of Firefall ( that was way before the purchase of microsoft ) That straight fact that can be easy find with a 5 sec google search.

This should’ve been a major red flag that people haven’t talked about enough. Prior to the start of this gen he had an interview with the same Ryan where he said they didn’t lose Xbox One generation due to the quality of their games (keep in mind, he said this the same year PS had exclusives like Nioh 2, FF7R, Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU2, which is better output than the entire XB1 7-year lineup) but other reasons. Now after the Redfall disaster he comes out again saying great games don’t sell consoles and that everyone is locked in due to digital libraries. At the same time Nintendo has their best console ever which launched with 0 backwards compatibility, and both Sony and Nintendo still have anywhere between 40-60% of game sales happening physically (which means people can sell them if they really wanna switch platforms). The guy is just straight up clueless and wouldn’t be able to identify and nurture amazing games if his life depended on it, because he doesn’t believe in great games.

The thing is - it's the correct choice. Getting into consoles in the first place was a massive blunder for Microsoft. Microsoft's revenue comes primarily from Windows. They inexplicably believed the "PC is dead" nonsense and went into consoles, competing with themselves and neglecting their own platform so badly that Valve was able to set up shop on their lawn and create a monopoly in an OS they don't even control. The Xbox was a mistake. Microsoft should have always focused their game development efforts on PC making it the premiere gaming platform.

The reality is that Gamepass has hit market saturation. The people that don't want to own their games and want to rent them have signed up. Everyone else isn't interested. Microsoft assumed that they'd just keep growing, but vastly overestimated how much the average gamer dislikes subscriptions controlling their entire library.

He’s the only CEO from the big 3 who frequently appears and speaks in public, and when he does he wears jeans and a gaming shirt referencing some obscure old IP so people fall for it and think he’s a “true gamer” like one of them and not an old bonehead who barely knows how to hold a controller like Jim Ryan. Except ironically Jim Ryan at least knew what made his console thrive: great games, and tried to make sure they had those. Phil on the other spent his time whining about how the industry isn’t growing and how people are locked in because of digital libraries while Nintendo currently has their most successful console ever despite it having 0 backwards capability. And he was simultaneously chasing a mystical audience of “3bn gamers” who were just a grasp away if only they didn’t need to spend $300-500 on those damn consoles and $60-70 per game. They basically fell for his charm, and still do, as evidenced by this video where people still believe he’s some sort of pro-gamer CEO who now has to fight and internal battle against Microsoft bean counters.

They are bleeding money with the service model and unless they had an unrealistic number amount of subs, it’s only going to get worse. Xbox doesn't need a new CEO. Microsoft does as sadly, Xbox is powerless against its parent. Satya tells Xbox to close studios, Xbox does not get to have a choice in the matter.

It was Microsoft, not Xbox that closed those studios. Plus, those studios were going to be closed regardless of if Microsoft owned them. ZeniMax was in that bad a spot that they were looking at collapse due to overstretching their worldwide resources, such as staff and support. So many people aren't looking at the cause, instead are thinking emotionally, and the games media are eating it up for views.

Not at all. In fact, Xbox One improved over and over and over with constant updates to UI and added features (backwards compatibility, achievement tracker, snap feature, resume play, being able to go back to a game after opening one app which Sony didn't have, fps+resolution boost, etc.) to the point that it forced Sony to step up. Some of those features are yet to be available on PS5, even back again on Xbox (snap) and some not even on PC (instant boost for old games). Xbox One had great exclusives for the first 4 years, during the infamous PortStation 4 era. It just never recovered from E3 2013 with the DMR fiasco and "always on" rumors (funny, when nowadays the most played games are online only...) but it was far from a bad console, specially the One X who can handle games in stable 4K like not even "next gen" can.

@athena9029 That's not technically true with current gen consoled not being able to handle 4k. They definitely can, they just aren't being optimised by devs because too many people still don't own technically capable of utilising these next gen things. Like a monitor capable of next gen resolution at atleast the minimum 120hz
