I had a lot of fun riding the new Triumph Thruxton R, including taking it around an airport. So goggles on, chocks away and Tally-Bally-Ho!

Im thinking of downsizing to one of these...down from 1500 cc 200 rwhp. You get spoilt by torque and yet i dont need 320kmh but you do want some power. So a good one to downsize as im now 65

Nice looking machine, though I agree on the reflector; gold forks should not be fiddled with! The radiator looks a bit naff too but the rest I definitely like.

Gorgeous bike that, and with a few upgrades they can sound even better. However I love cafe racers, but a lot of their appeal to me is the personalisation, so I don't think I'd want to buy an off-the-shelf cafe as it were

+Spectre223 Triumph do plenty of extras you can buy to personalise it. Something like 150 items.

Interesting, but I still reckon I'd buy a Bonnie or Speedmaster over this. So you've test ridden a few bikes now, are there any left that you really want to try but haven't got around to yet?

Those reflectors do spoil the looks.. having said that .... a bike pulled out a side turning in front of me in the early hours and i spotted the orange reflector easily ! As i biker myself, looks wise i would probably take them off, but safety wise they work. Keep up the good work P480

Ok, this guy is cool. I like his reviews! Very in-depth like instead of blasting paper facts he just gives an actual first person perspective from the bike. =) I love it. My question is: can it handle 2 passengers??? Im going to purchase a bike soon and i love the Cafe Racer look more than the bobber or cruiser look, but they dont look like they are friendly to passengers. Any advice????
@Phil480
@Phil480 8 жыл бұрын
+Willy WowsomeWanker Thank you for the kind words! I do try and keep these reviews as real as I can, and the best way is to just share the experience I'm having with the bike I'm test riding. The new Thruxton does not come with pillion pegs as standard, but you do have the choice of adding them along with changing the seat cowl for a pillion seat. So it can carry a passenger, but how well it handles with the extra weight on the back is anyones guess.

I'm so torn on this one! I've test ridden it twice and totally fell in love. I ride a 72 CB750 now, basically mint, with similar seats and bars so I'm used to the position and have taken mine on long trips happily, which I'd want to do with the Thrux. I've been considering adding something new to the arsenal and was convinced the T120 was for me, but it was a mighty pedestrian ride after this one. Smooth and lovely and versatile, but not quite as grin-inducing. Still, I wonder if long term I'd be happier with something more comfortable and passenger worthy. Thoughts?
@Phil480
@Phil480 8 жыл бұрын
+David Amsden Tough one. T120 is a bit more practical, but the Thruxton is far more fun. If only there was a combination of the two hahah.
@davidamsden2830
@davidamsden2830 8 жыл бұрын
I know! I mean, why not offer the T120 with that same engine tuning? The Thruxton is basically exactly what my CB750 wants to be-and while she can fly, she takes her time getting to speed. Still, two cafe style bikes may be indulgent.
@Phil480

That would be good. Perhaps they are planning to do that for a future model.

I am 5'3", it was a bit tall for me but I could manage it. In fact, now I'm used to the tallness of my Scrambler, I'd probably be okay with the Thruxton now haha.

Hi Phil, watched a few off your videos now, have subscribed , are you still Riding your scrambler? I have a 15 plate air oil scambler, I have modified The crap out of it, cosmetic and performance, it's bloody brilliant now, stock suspension was shocking, if you want some pointers get in touch, or look up George at tec bike parts, I sometimes get down to Destination Triumph Washington, noticed last time I was there, nearly all bike in showroom were classic range, so that's where it's at right now, I have test ride Al except the street twin, didn't bother as I am a 6ft 17 Stone son off a bitch, and it felt like a push bike Just sitting on it, Thruxton R and street scambler definitely the best of the bunch, Going to ask Santa for the Thruxton ! Keep up the good work, maybe we bump into each other sometime, I only up the road in uckfield, Do you ever frequent wessons cafe Horam? Massive Biker haunt on Sundays.

Hi Ray, yes still loving the Scrambler. Need to get my 1 year ownership review done. I have thought about upgrading the shocks, but I think any big jobs like that, I will do if I decide to keep the bike at the end of the PCP in a couple of years time. I can understand you not bothering with the Street Twin, it's probably the smallest in the range. I've been to Wessons a couple of times, its a good spot. I may see you there one day. Whiteways (Bury Hill) is my local.

I'm 5'-4 - lowered my suspension and took foam out of the seat which reduced the height about 1.5 inches - I'm completely flat-footed now, so at 5'-8 you would have no problem I believe - take one out for a ride and see. Great video by the way. Thanks!

I hate EU regulation designed vehicles. They will have to be written off eventually because the electronic parts will cost more than the machine is worth. That's if they are even obtainable. The bikes are also extremely ugly because they now have to have a radiator.
@Phil480
@Phil480 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, the EU regs have spoiled some nice features, although Triumph seem to have done a fairly good job of hiding the radiator. I hate those fork reflectors, luckily they come off very easily.
