If you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to get ripped off by taking the wrong taxi at NAIA in Manila, Philippines. When you arrive at Terminal 3 and come out the doors, you'll be asked where you are going. Do NOT talk to these people. They are working for the "coupon taxi" companies. These taxis are white and overcharge by three to five times what a regular airport taxi costs!
By walking just a few steps, you can get a yellow metered taxi and pay up to 80% less (paying $4 USD instead of $20)!
Watch the video to learn how easy it is to find the cheaper taxis and avoid the overcharging scam.

I paid 850 pesos to Makati lol. I knew it was expensive, but just wanted to go to the hotel. It's a shame they do this is it leaves a poor perception for future travel.

It was three years ago the last time visited my homeland and it seems like there are some real changes in the International Airport in the arrival area. The parking area is not there anymore. Good planning that they put a walkway where taxi cabs can line up to take passengers. This is really a help to me since I just dont want to rely on somebody to pick me up in the airport but of course I just have to make my baggage lighter to carry. Yes take the meter taxi always. Thanks for the information it helps for me. Take care and god bless!

Ah thats great commentary, i have used a 450p flat rate taxi before, on my first visit in 2014 but i didn't know any better heh. (coincidentally i also stayed at the same red planet in makati, it was still tune hotel then) luckily since then i have made friends that will pick me up when in country. If you are still around in march maybe ill see you in town, im in legaspi but always walking makati..good vid and cheers.

+Jean-Paul Guillois Not the first time. But I have traveled to SEA before so I knew to ALWAYS ask for a metered taxi, regardless. So the first time I got here and they jumped on me the moment I got out the door, I asked if they used a meter and they said no - that it was fixed fare. So I asked around for a metered taxi and that's how I found the yellow taxis.

Had an incident with white taxi, he agreed to 300p to terminal 3. Once in cab and out of airport terminal was handed bit of paper with rates, now wanted 1000p. Argument ensured and I demanded to be let off. Could have ended bad. DONT get involved with negotiations with white taxi's Have used yellow taxi since and went without incident, however I felt the meter was ticking over a little fast. Paid 370p from terminal 2 to terminal 3

Thank you for the upload, it´s really appreciated. I find it VERY confusing to take a taxi from NAIA. If you don´t know how things work there you might end up getting ripped off very badly. I have arrived at T1 at NAIA 4 times now. Normally my GF waits for me at the meeting area, which is cross the street from T1 and down a "ramp". Last time when I was on my way to the meeting area, a guy walked over to me and I honestly thought he was somehow authorized by the airport. After talking shortly with him, we walked down to the meeting area and he helped me find my GF among the probably several hundred people, waiting for their relatives / friends / family at the meeting area. He then asked me if i needed a taxi and - stupid like I was - i said yes. Me and my GF had to go to Quezon City - corner Scout Rallos / Scout Tobias - a ride that will normally not take much more than 45 minutes to 1 hour - maybe 1 hour 15 on a really "bad traffic" day. When the dude mentioned the price of PHP 3.600 i was almost collapsing, and I have to admit that I said some words to the guy that I can´t really repeat here :-) I managed to get the price down and I dont even remember what i paid, because I was so angry, but I probably ended up paying WAY too much anyway. I dont know if the car was "registered" but it was not a normal cab-size car - more like a SUV - Van type of car. Afterwards i have to say that I really thought he was somehow authorized by the airport, because he was standing on a kind of plateau in an open booth just outside the airport, but he probably was just a bad rip-off dude, somehow affiliated with the guys down at the meeting area. But when you say I should take the yellow cabs, I just have to say that I did not see those down at the meeting area. Maybe I just did not pay enough attention. I also don´t know if it is allowed to walk back up to the area near the terminal exit with a person you have "picked up" at the meeting area. I have to say that the last couple of times I have arrived very late - around midnight - which doesn´t make it easier, because it´s dark outside - and because the safety issue is important too.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. 3600P is insane! From the airport to QC, I would guess about 500P should be about right. Much more than that and you're getting ripped. Remember when you are traveling, always, ALWAYS, set a price before getting in. Or make sure they use a meter. I've often gotten in to taxis and they started going without the meter and I tell them to please turn the meter on. If they argue with me, I tell them to stop the car and I get out. Simple as that. Another option these days is just to use Uber. You never get hassled and the cars are almost always nicer.It's a shame though because there are a lot of good, honest, hard-working cabbies out there just trying to feed their families but the crooked ones ruin it for everyone.
@sukhmaidickoff
@sukhmaidickoff 7 жыл бұрын
+Slow Easy English - Thanks for your comment. Yeah I was shocked when I heard the price, And even I paid less than the 3.600 it´s still crazy. In hindsight I don´t even understand why I did not just get out of the taxi again and of course I should have asked a price before they loaded our baggage into the trunk etc. But I had been at work for a full day and then going 4 hours by train to the airport and after that flying 20 hours without even one second of sleep. So I must have been awake for almost 48 hours when I arrived and all I thought about was going to the hotel as soon as possible to get some sleep. I will probably go to Manila again this coming July and I can assure you that I will be more cautious this time. After my last visit, I actually wrote to the Management of the airport and complained about all the pirate-taxis there, and that the pirate-taxi-people made the impression to me that their fares were somehow agreed with the airport management. I did not really expect to get an answer back. But I actually got contacted by The Head of Customer Relations at NAIA and he told me they were very aware of the problems and trying actively to do something about it. Uber sounds like a good idea too. Either that or a taxi where i can go by meter.

I'll be in Phil in 3 weeks . And just found out my hotel doesn't offer shuttle service anymore . They have private ones that cost you about 60 dollars . So I'm planning to just get the yellow cab and give a proper tip. Now my problem would be going back to the airport , I would probably buy a simcard at the store and load to get a grab .. We will see🤪

Walk five minutes out of the airport and hail a white taxi from there and get it for P200 to Makati. Far cheaper than the yellow ones.
@SlowEasyEnglish
@SlowEasyEnglish 8 жыл бұрын
+cashpanache I do that at Terminal 4 because it's so small but doing that at Terminal 3 would be a pain in the butt just to save 30p. Most people arriving internationally have too much luggage for that to be worth it. Did you watch the whole video? My taxi cost exactly 202 pesos to Makati. Another thing is that the yellow taxis won't argue about the fare. You start at 70p and pay the meter price. If you go and flag your own on the street, you're very likely to be asked for an additional 50 or 100p by the driver and if you don't want to pay it you'll have to reject two or three cabs before one will take you. Too much trouble IMO.

I will be taking a trip that is 80km to my hotel from the Manila airport. According to the maps, with traffic, We will say roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes. How much would that run?
@SlowEasyEnglish
@SlowEasyEnglish 4 жыл бұрын
wow, that's a tough one. that's far so the driver gets no money coming back which means you are unlikely to get a cab to use the meter. i think if you find a cabbie who is doing nothing with his day you should be able to negotiate a ride for 3000 pesos or less. This is purely a wild guess tho! I'm just basing it off a hunch and my experience with taxis in the PH.

I always use Uber now. So much better than taxis. It's a shame because I know there are a lot of good hard-working taxi drivers in Manila, but there are also unfortunately a lot of jerks that won't give you a ride after you tell them where you want to go or will fight with you by asking for an extra 50p over the meter charge, etc. The rotten apples spoil the whole bushel. I have never had a problem with Uber in Manila though. It's almost always easy to get one, they are ALWAYS friendly and polite, you of course never get hassled for more money, you don't have to waste 20 minutes hailing, and it's automatically billed to your credit card. Taxi companies are going to have to change drastically or die out. But I do feel bad for the good guys in cabs that will have to suffer because of this.

Totally agree on the tipping. I usually add an average of 50 pesos or a dollar. They'll be very thankful... Or NOT! Depending on your luck, you can sometimes get a taxi driver from hell in Manila. And quite often. Thank God for Uber. Although these yellow taxis have better reputation than the regular white ones.
@SlowEasyEnglish
@SlowEasyEnglish 8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Christiansen Yeah, I agree. Some of these taxi drivers are quite nice and just doing their jobs to put food on the table while others can be really rude. If they're rude, they don't get a tip. That simple. That said, I now use Uber whenever I can because I've never had a rude Uber driver and the cars are almost always nicer. And they don't drive like jerks.
