The look of the X3 is so much more my style. The fact that the sound has flattened out a little bit and become a more balanced headphone makes me think that it would make total sense to have the X2HR and X3 as complementary headphones if the sound signatures are distinct enough.

Done just that. Got X2HR for 100 EUR and X3 for 80 EUR, a steal! In my opinion X3 are to X2, what HD600 are to HD650. If Philips called the X3, something different, people would accepted that. I think they got bad rep for naming and pricing . For 40% of the price of HD600 the X3 are a steal, if people didn't look at them as X2 replacment, but different product you start to see them in new light. Lot of people on HiFi forums replacing their HD600 with X3, as their sound are so simlar and now with discounts price is very good and there are only subtle differences in sound. Personally didn't hear HD600 or HD650 yet, but I used HD598 for last 8 years and X3 and X2 are way more clear, detailed and got tigther bass. 598s bass just bloats over mids too much, but you can listen to 598 at higher voluemes where as X2 and X3 brightnes comes in play and they start to hear the hzzz noise. But I am really sensitive to high treble, down the line will be trying out HD650 and HD600 to compare for myself,

Right? I don’t get why people gravitate towards the X2s for metal so much. I’m selling my X2s, I find them fairly terrible for metal. So screechy. I’ve been using my HD560S instead and they’re so much better to me, gives music real weight, rather than just booming bass

great review, very informative But I think first part is too long, 8 minutes about construction and materials. I was eager to hear about sound. Maybe you should pre-plan everything you want to say about construction, and squeeze it in like 4 minutes instead of 8, would be perfection.

Thanks to your video I have placed my focus to Fidelio headphones. I bought X2HR as opened one + Fidelio L3 as close back. Im really happy with them as Philips have them tuned exactly for my "taste". It is nice and warm sound signature. Also if you will think about price today, this is a deal breaker.

From my viewpoint X3>X1S>X2HR. They are all great, but the subbass in the X2HR bothers my ears after a while. However, I feel everyone disagrees with me, and puts it in reverse.

Here's the thing about headphones, that people aren't real about- no headphones, 0, absolutely none are the right headphones for every situation when it comes to sound and music. There is so much music and there is so much media in which it is designed to have ground shaking bass, and there is so much music and media that are supposed to give you extreme details and high pitch frequencies and with perfect clarity and depth. You cannot take headphones and EQ up highs the high or lows in my opinion, but you can EQ down, and when you EQ down the results are fantastic the detail remains but the edge is reduced just down to your likings where you set them at. Take the X2HR's drop a little bit of upper bass is that your preference, and drop the 4K down 5DB, rise up the 1K a bit and the 2K a good amount, and presto you have the best headphones on the planet imo. ( quite happy being alone with this opinion) There will never be a headphone that I won't use software and EQ on, the results that I have with the software and the EQ that I use on the X2HR's are the best results I've ever had with a set of cans. To me headphones and speakers should disappear, these headphones disappear on my head (you need the dekoni velour pads for this), and the sound stage is so balanced in all six directions that nothing compares to it. These headphones actually give you a front stage , especially if you the metal head frames a nice bit of bending so the fronts of the pads clamp tight further assisting the angled 50mm drivers. Sennheiser lacks this completely as well as every other headphone I've tried , and in my opinion the added detail I would call it is just downright unrealistic it sounds digital, it sounds compressed , it sounds like a strange metallic sound , hifiman do a better job at giving you added detail while still sounding real, but the sound stage is straight out to the left of the right and lacking in all other directions, leaving me constantly aware that I have headphones on and without any sense of sounds being in front of me. If there were headphones out there that could do what these do, better, without compromise, I would be willing to drop maybe $1500 to $2000 on them, but they're just not out there. The X2's do not get enough respect. You've got you've got people out there that lead you to believe they are the most fun and most exciting headphones you could hear, but not as good as other headphones, how does this make any sense? Thank you for your video!

Never liked the SHP sound signature. X2HRs are fantastic and are my "easy listening" phones - they're easy to drive, have plenty of bass and lots of detail as well as the widest soundstage of any pair I've ever had (sometimes unnaturally so). But favorite pair is never talked about any more though I've still not found anything I like better, price notwithstanding.... the AKG K712 Pro (which happens to perfectly compliment the X2HR for me).

I wish the reviewer would have said more about the treble region of the X3's. I owned a pair of X2HR's and loved their PRaT and how good they sounded and would have happily lived with them as my daily drivers, but there was too much energy in the treble region so I got rid of them. I think it would have been helpful if the reviewer had gone into detail about the differences (or lack thereof) in treble between the X2's and the X3's.
