I use Blooms for accent lighting where I can hid the light behind something. I use the Go lights in areas where I want the light to be a focal feature due to its greater brightness and design aesthetic.

You missed an important function with the Go, that you can slowly cycle through its ENTIRE colour range when pressing and holding the button. So you are not just limited to whites and certain tones as you mentioned

Hey mate, I'm looking to add 2 bulbs/lamps to my already owned phillips ambilight tv. I want these to add to lamps either side of the room to work with the hue bridge. So I want it to work with the tv lights if that makes sence
@MontoyaMatrix

A bit biased. He's says don't get them because, essentially, you can do better/save money. But he is disregarding the elegant design, which does make a difference for people, and for pod-casters and film people. Maybe even more important is that he completley overlooks the fact that the Hue version is actually portable, running on battery. Does ANY other company have a smart, color-changing light that is portable. Think about color therapy, or general mood lighting that you can actually TAKE WITH YOU. Yes, they are expensive, but, to some degree here, you do get what you pay for. This review is a good lesson on actual objectivity in a product review, and on judgement calls in general.
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, you should gather as many opinions as possible and make an informed opinion for yourself. This was just my opinion on the product, yours may differ. A few points to mention though, the battery life in the GO at full brightness isn't very long, a couple of hours max. I also wouldn't recommend them for film production or podcasters, since they flicker on camera at most framerates as you can see in my video, which is shot at 60fps. I hope you find the light that works for you.

I own both and like the Bloom. I use them in my sun room to color my white solar shades in the evening. The Go, I use as a center piece on the coffee table in the sun room.. Of the two, the Bloom serves me best. I also have HUE candle lights in the ceiling fans, and Hue flood light in all my can lights. My table lamps also have Hue bulbs. You can beat the Hue system for mood lighting..I wish I could attach a picture to show how good the Bloom works.. I own 6 of them and love them

That's great feedback, thank you sharing! For my use, I preferred the Go, but it's nice to hear from someone who prefers the Bloom. It really all comes down to personal preference in the end. I'm sure your setup looks great, it sounds pretty cool.
@PotentChr0nic

What I prefer about the Bloom is that it's entirely indirect whereas the Go draws attention towards itself and can get distracting when used with Hue Sync in an entertainment area. I wish they'd make a model of the Go with a solid backside that's not transparent. Thanks for the great comparison!

Great review. Question: Will my phone bluetooth pair with the plugged in Go automatically when I come home or do I need to connect manually to it through the app? If so, is there a time limit for how long does it stay paired? I have an automation app on my phone that can turn on mobile hotspot when the phone pairs with a certain bluetooth device. Would be great to have something at home that could help initiate mobile hotspot.
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 3 жыл бұрын
The Go light is not Bluetooth. It uses a communications protocol called ZigBee. This is why you need a bridge in order to take advantage of the full functionality. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it will work for what you are trying to do with it. The good news is that ZigBee stays connected and you can control it from your phone anytime anywhere. No need to re-pair. Thanks for watching, sorry for the late reply.

Can you describe how bright the lights are at their very lowest setting (maybe even compared to Hue color bulbs)? I know the different Hue bulbs are quite different in this regard. The idea is to have them fade in as gently as possible for a sunrise effect, or as a nightlight that illuminates the room barely enough to see where I'm going.
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 4 жыл бұрын
They both go so low that you would only be able to see the light by looking directly at it. The Go still shows the right colour and is uniform at its lowest setting. The Bloom colour is off and it gets flickery at its lowest setting. So, if you are looking at having them used at their lowest settings, I would get the Go. As compared to the 4 bulbs that came in the kit that I got, I would say the Go is very similar. Maybe slightly brighter at its lowest setting than the regular bulbs, but very similar. I would still opt for regular bulbs myself, but for the situation that you are describing, the Go might work for you. I hope this helps.
@tom4794
@tom4794 4 жыл бұрын
@@tech_progress Thanks. I got the Go and use it to wake me with a sunrise, works really well. Its lowest setting is really much, much better (i.e., dimmer) than my old LivingColors Iris. There’s definitely PWM flicker at the very low end - but I’m asleep at that point anyway. Being able to use it on battery power is a nice addon. I think it would have been much cooler though if it came with a sort of dock rather than a barrel jack plug, so that you could literally just pick it up.
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 4 жыл бұрын
@@tom4794 I'm glad its working out for you. The flicker is pretty good on the Go as opposed to the Bloom. The Bloom is terrible at the low end. A dock would have been really nice, something to charge it and also allow you to aim it. Maybe something for Philips to improve on in the future.

Do you need a bridge for either the bloom or light bar? I want it for my desktop
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the light bar, but you need the bridge to be able to control the Bloom. If the light bar has any functionality without the bridge, it would probably be limited like the Go. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@eventhorizon2873
@eventhorizon2873 4 жыл бұрын
A bridge is handy, when you want to make a lightplan. You can make rooms with each bulb at a specific setting or use the ones from philips. I think you should go for the bridge anyway, it reconizes multiple brands as long they are zigbee.

Any recommendations for similar floor lamp/fixtures to the hue bloom design.(sitting on floor to throw light up the wall)
@tech_progress
@tech_progress 4 жыл бұрын
It might be hard to replicate the exact same form factor as the Bloom or the Go. If you need that exact shape and size I would get the Go light. Try searching for "flood light fixtures", "flexible lamp" or "spot light". There's a lot of options available, but they won't be the exact same as the Go, however, they will be much brighter in the end. It's definitely a trade off, but it's up to you to decide what will work best for you. Hope this helps.

Is there a light fixture in the room (pot light, ceiling fixture etc...) that you want a bulb for or are you looking for something like a lamp? Will this light be used to light the entire room or will it be used with other lights? Also, How large is the room? This would help me to make a better recommendation.
