Flash backs of the REAL Genesis days! Phil has always been and will always be one of my favorite drummers of all time. It's sad to see him in the shape he's in these days. Love and Light to you Phil! ✌😎👍🧠🌌♾🎼🎶🎵

From Paris, thanks.

Phil said somewhere he thought his performance was not good, was untidy and was a bit of a disaster as he put it. I found that on a YT video recently. He said he wasn't ready and had listened to the track and realised he had almost completely forgotten what he originally played ... or something like that. This ending section sounds good to me!

I remember reading somewhere that he wasn’t particularly happy with this performance, I think Phil was just unhappy that he’d probably missed all the little nuances that he played on the original.

Multitalented Phil! My favorite drummer of all time is Bill 'Dr. William Scott' Bruford but always thought Phil is a phenomenal drummer (they are buddies and had somewhat similar 'style'). Sometimes I wish it was Phil who succeeded Bill in Yes.

The progressive band "what ifs" on "who could play with" are still my favourite dreams. Who knows... Nick Mason could fill in for Genesis and Geddy Lee could get in Yes. Ok, ok... Nick Mason maybe it's not on par with Collins but I would clap him till my palms are red anyway. 🤣

Xavier Vega Not just that but they had peter Gabriel attend their shows, Steve Hackett played "Firth of fifth" with them live on stage in London 2002, Tony and Mike gave them carte blanche into their archives and storage room to study the instruments and props used in those tours. AND Martin Levac, who did the "Phil" in the Musical Box went on tour with Daryl Steurmer, taking his "Phil Collins" tribute to official heights. As far as I know the Musical Box are the only tribute band that received THAT much praise and support from the original band.

@@robertociai6205 Heck when Genesis had their only live reunion with Peter Gabriel in the early eighties and they performed "the lamb lies down on Broadway" in full, Peter Agreed to do "Turn it on again" with the band too. Peter sat behind Phil's drum kit during rehearsals and said that he knew the song, he COULD play along with it. UNTIL he found that the 13/8 time signature of that song is a little more difficult than he thought. So for the performance he made due with some percussion instruments and let Chester deal with the actual drums.

If you go back you can hear the Phil Collins drum style at work through much of V1 Genesis. As time went on they simply brought the drums up in the mix so we could hear the Phil-isms at work.

This gladdens me so...from a later 80s Collins interview, he said that he could no longer play as he did in 70s Genesis...and here he was, in 2005, doing a 70s Phil/Genesis...thanks, Phil, for the memory...I miss (70s) Genesis...

There have been quite a few comments about his playing in this clip. It is well worth noting that Phil is a left-handed drummer, and this kit is set up for a right-handed player. If you don't play, you may not notice or care, but it is a nightmare for your muscle memory to try to play backwards.
