Spirits are usually attached to a place or an object. Sometimes spirits remain near the places where they died, sometimes they roam around (moving from place to place), or sometimes they're attached to a place that meant a lot to them... So I'm assuming that the tree was important and meaningful for Shashi (the woman spirit in the movie) when she was alive. Also, some people do get married to trees or dogs if they were born under a cursed star or something. Once they get married to the tree, then they're able to marry an actual person (the curse is gone once they get married to the tree). So, the guy in the movie accidentally married Shashi (the spirit), because she was attached to the tree (she's not actually the tree). When the trailer transitions to the scenes with Shashi and Phillauri (the guy in the turban.. i think that's his name), that's when Shashi was alive. I'm assuming that her and Phillauri were in love, but something must have happened to Phillauri... She might have committed suicide, was murdered, or died near that tree. But it's easy to tell when a movie is in the past or the present... Notice the colour of the scenes. The scenes that are "present day" are bright, whilst the scenes that signify the past usually have this yellow tone to them. I'm pretty sure that Shashi tells the guy (who married the tree) and his fiance what happened between her and Phillauri, hence why the movie has to go back in time. Hope that makes sense. All in all, I'm so stoked for this movie! Diljit Dosanjh and Anushka Sharma!! :D The songs for this movie will be amazing... so excited! :)

In india there is a belief that , if your wish is not fulfilled when you die you become a ghost , wandering on earth. So the ghost in the movie had wish which was not fulfilled , when she was real girl is her story. The couple who is getting married will help her wish full filled so that she won't be ghost anymore.

the part where you are confused is the girls past, before she died and became a ghost. The guy marries the tree but the ghost girl happens to be standing where the tree is so thats why shes married to him.

Actually spirits latch on to objects to remain in this world in this case its a tree. n the girl has been dead for years its her flash back to show wat exactly happened in her past. pillauri is the name of her lover who was also a singer. 😄

According to Hindi mythology some trees are abode of ghosts and people become ghost and stay on earth when they have some unfinished business otherwise they go to heaven . So when he married that tree the lady ghost was in it . And in the second half the ghost's unaccomplished love story is shown

the thing is that in india some insane people practice marrying a tree before marrying to human being because of something wrong thing in their janampatrirs hence he got married to that tree and in that tree the girl who is a ghost live and as he got married to tree so as with that girl then she troubles her as now he getting married to some other girl and after some time the bride also know about her them she tells about herself and her story and hoe they can help her(ghost) in dealing with it so that was all in this trailer

They have to cut down the tree because the guy was cursed so he cannot marry a girl else she will die in future. So first he marry the tree then they cut it down which is a clear indication that it died and he can marry someone else. Then we see that actually there was a ghost living there on the tree and she said that he married her and now he cannot marry somebody else. And now his fiance when she got to know about that she ask her what is the reason and she went back to the time and told her her story. Back when she was alive she loved a guy and IDK what particularly happens why is she dead you've to wait for the movie instead.

Please watch the trailer again and pay attention to the subtitles..
