The point is if you replace it, might as well check and confirm that the old was obstructed which would explain why your vehicle was running like garbage.

If you dont change a fuel filter you can also burn out the fuel pump, then that 15 buck fuel filter becomes a 600 to 700 dollar repair job unless you can do it yourself

I was going to say the same thing! The worst thing about a fuel pump is dropping the tank! Then u gotta have the vehicle jacked up high enough. Obivously jacked up higher for cars/low clearance vehicles.

Even then it’s still a 200-500$ job depending on what pump you need and if you need any tools on top of knowing where everything is/goes😂

i’m doing it on my 2001 ford mustang gt and it about 100$ 60 for pump and filter is 10 and a grommet we needed is 10 and little stuff

The fuel filter whether old or new, will have flow direction marked on the side. If the filter looks old from the outside, it's probably the same way inside. Filters are cheap, being stranded on the road is not, so replace it anyway!

Use a water balloon on outlet makes its easy to tell

I just pour the in line (or both for yours) into a mason jar, let it drip a while. You will see water and dirty fuel. That's enough test for me to see if we're putting a new filter in in a couple months

It could if badly clogged. Start by checking your fuel pressure to make sure it’s not the pump or regulator

Looking for advice on an 04 civic sedan manual transmission. How do I know if its the filter, pump, or fuel injectors? I checked the fuses. Not sure if its the relay. It just started idling extremely rough and stalling. Won't rev past 2000 rpm, no power. Feels like its starved of fuel. I got rear ended hard a few weeks ago. I don't know if its related. No check engine light. Could it be fuel pressure regulator? Just checked. The relay is working, the fuel pump is coming on. I unhooked the line, there's fuel pressure. I didn't measure the pressure just visually gas spurts out with pressure when I disconnect the line. Thinking of cleaning the MAF sensor and checking the coil packs. No check engine light. Anyone have an idea?

Normally if it’s the MAF sensor, or other sensors, you’ll get codes. I would check the actual pressure with a gauge and make sure the PSI is correct for your vehicle. Another thing that can cause rough idle and stalling, but not generate a code is a dirty or bad throttle body.

Put your ear near the gas tank and have some one turn the ignition to the on position for a couple seconds without cranking the car and see if you hear a slight whine Repeat a couple times and if you don’t hear anything coming from the gas tank then your pumps not working

Is this a vTec engine? If so you probably have a clogged Egr valve. Take out the valve and clean it. I assume you have multiple cylinder misfire as well.

Those engines (d17 series) do not have MAF sensors. They only have MAP sensors. I doubt that it has gone bad.
