Philo T. Farnsworth came up with the original idea for electronic television when he was 14. his is a story of true American Ingenuity. He invented a thousand things and was one of our unsung geniuses. Here in part two from an old PBS documentary, he wins his patent war against RCA, but ironically does not share in the fortunes made on his invention.

I did'nt know much about him before, only the rumor that he had something to do with the invention of television, but I now have watched several documentaries about him and believe that he must have been truely one of the greatest inventors of the twentieth century.

Pace, narration, music - they used to make decent documentaries 20 years ago, not like modern booming overproduced docufiction.

This is such a great story! This just goes to show you that the small guy is always the one to be stepped on! Damn RCA, They already had money, they didn't need anymore by trying to claim the invention of Electronic Television!! ALL the credit belongs to Philo!

When Philo saw the landing on the moon, he was not bitter, but happy that we all see it due to determination. He died alone and broke. RCA has never quit their piracy. How about the NFL ticket another monopoly. My wife and I were happy with At&t, now because of another RCA take over we had no choice. but to go with the them for now.They lied to us beyond belief and we loose the picture if there is a cloud within 600 miles. Plus no more OA news newschannel . Only Biased liberal news, control the masses with with lies to ensure the Clintons have their same old evil power. Abc has been a big part of our down fall.

Hee Dumont made the first television receiver on 1938. Sarnoff had to pay Dumont royalties for the CRT, which pissed off Sarnoff. Dumont owned the patent for the CRT phosphors. Dumont television network is the longest on air television network that is still on the air today

When I read a "history of technology" book when very young--Farnsworth may have still been alive at that point--the inventor of television was claimed to be Zworykin. And I thought that for many years. I didn't learn the truth until well into the 1980s. Talk about winning the battle but losing the war...

+Tom Leykis Fan To think of an idea and invented it with all the working parts, then have to fight a big corporation from claiming it? How much more stories like this?
