it's amazing how coordinated you Phil are with what I do LOL. The day I got my hands on the Zynq7000, a few hours later you uploaded your first video to it. Today I took the first measurements on my 3kW boost converter and there you are. Ah yes, the boost works but the inductor has 200W of core losses :P choose the ferrite well lads...

As always, an excellent presentation. Would love to see a vid on flyback converters. I made a flyback with UC3843 12v to 300v to run a DC capacitive discharge ignition system that I designed. It works OK but I'm not an expert by a long way and I'm sure that I'm missing something important. Particularly the snubbers are a little tricky for me. But anyway, keep up the great work. Most of your vids are way above my pay grade but super interesting none the less. Cheers Matt

Thank you for this video. I learned alot with this videos to design my own pcb with buck or boostconverters. But i got a question. Seems like the inductance is very related to the output voltage so how do i do it when im having an adjustable outvoltage?

This was well done, short and dense. I'm off to watch #106, got a couple questions. What's your experience matching simulation results (assuming the models are ok) to circuit measurements for boost converters? Also, say the boost converter doesn't quite work, how would you go about finding the error in component selection? Maybe these are topics for future videos. Personally, I'd like a boost converter from 18V to 400V@100mA for some vacuum tube guitar amplifier designs. These requirements are far outside all the common tools available like the Mouser/DK/TI search engines. Thanks for the video, it was exceptional.

Thank you very much, Craig! Those are great questions and definitely worthy of some videos. In particular for simulation, that's a great idea - I wanted to make some more on SPICE sims in any case. For boosting to a high voltage, if you can bring the current requirements down (e.g. for a guitar valve pre-amp), then I'd suggest a Dickson charge pump for simplicity. For a power amp with valves, I would go the AC, transformer, rectifier route.

Would be interested in techniques on how to power the controller properly in these designs. The concepts and sizing is great, but if you can't spin up the controller effectively then nothing else really matters. This is particularly important for MPPT etc. where you have a battery and solar and you're using an STM32 as an example and you need to power it from either the solar or the battery. My previous hack has been to use a buck regulator and then hack up some sort of gate that prefers battery if available and solar if not using a fet. Would love to see a better solution or at least one that is comprehensively designed. This also applies for push/pull issolated DC/DC converters at high power.

Hey Phil - Your Videos are certainly the best for PCB- and STM-Content on YT... ... but ... for the "Not-native-Speakers" ... I think it woud be a good Idea to - ... - lass es mal etwas langsamer angehen ;-) Ich gebe zu - ich verstehe nichts vom "YT-Erfolgsprinzip" (speziell: Länge der Einzel-Clips (ja, zu lang ist schlecht, usw. ...) - aber Du bist mittlerweile schon etwas "sehr flott" unterwegs. Sorry, wenn ich das mal so anmerken muss, aber etwas mehr Gelassenheit (less Words per Second) hat auch was für sich !? ...ansonsten: Mach weiter so (bis auf den SPEED ;-) - ich hoffe es geht Dir gut und Du kannst gut Leben von dem was Du hier für uns alle machst! Moin, danke fürs Feedback! Das mit der Geschwindigkeit ist so 'ne Sache.. stimme Dir zu, dass langsamer natürlich besser wäre. Aber ist leider ein 'trade-off' mit Videolänge, und dass es eh eine 'arbitrary playback speed' Funktion gibt. Werde versuchen in zukünftigen Videos das etwas runterzuschrauben. Gerade mache ich auch die Edits, so dass Video so kurz wie möglich ist. 😊
