I really love how refined their sound is these days but if you wanna hear the real beast unleashed check out live stuff from '93-'97. MSG 95 is a great place to start.

That's how I felt in '99 after friends and associate were trying turn me onto them since '97. I felt like I was coming into this secret world. Especially, after the 1st Hiatus when they came back and got to go to my first concert! That was lit!!

What? just sounds like their warming up their instruments the whole time and don’t really start the show. This is the stuff bands play to test their speakers for sound in the stadium, it’s not music.

@@tropicthndr What are you talking about ?? it's a very complex arrangement and they play it perfectly. I'm not a total Phish junkie, but I do love them. Their first official album, Junta, is a masterpiece of prog rock. That's right, you heard right, prog. There aren't many jams on Junta, I even would say that Divided Sky is not a jam, but an organized composition. I have listened to this album more than anyone, I assure you, YEM makes it's first appearance there, it's a landmark in music creation. Part of the reason why I love it is because it's pure - they weren't rich or famous, just trying to make a musical statement, and that they did. Go get it and listen to it 10 or 20 times so you can realize the truth of my statements. If you don't agree, give me your address and I will send you the money to reimburse you for the cost of it.

When I heard them go into "Frankie Says" I said to myself..."Oh they're playing newer stuff". Then I did the math and realized this song is 25 years old! Still love it though. My first show was July 1 1994...Mann Music Center Phila PA

agreed. the whole show felt strangely "low energy" for lack of a better term.. I was surprised they agreed to do this virtual show, back when Trey was doing the Beacon Jams I thought they had made it clear Phish would never perform in that way because the crowd is so important.

@@Paul-jp8zz yes. Lemonade is tart. But thirst quenching! It definitely illustrated the importance of the interaction of energies. Some assert that all matter is comprised of moving waves at a submolecule level. Also, as the the song asserts, "The world is made of energy." So, perhaps, the engine room, vortex, security dude tapping her foot, guy at his first show drinking in the hallway, and the cat wandering the sky balcony are all blended together in waves of electric viscosity and funnelled via a catalyst lovingly back to the assembly.

to me its distressing to hear YEM so clean, dry, and s l o w, at least until the jam half. ive noticed a lot of the 4.0 run's songs have been played noticeably slower and gentler than normal. great band put in a tough spot with the 'rona problems; i just wish they felt 20 years younger
