I honestly believe that this is the best YEM they have ever played..................and YEM is the most played song ever by phish in concert. Easily the best acapella jam they have ever performed live.
@EugeneAxe5 жыл бұрын
Even if you don't like Phish you have to respect the musicianship. Good Lord these fellas can play.
@samiam73423 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%, they also have more endurance than any other band at the time.....they could play for hours and hours and hours.........back in the day, when they would practice, they did an exercise where they would do an improvisational jam that would last for about 8 hours............no lie.

I always listened to this track for Fishman more than the rest of the band, if I’m being totally honest... Not only is he absolutely on fire and going for it like he’s drumming for his life in this version, but the drum sound in this particular venue is just incredible! I don’t know if I’ve heard a better sounding live recording (for my taste) of Phish than this song. There is just so much “pop” and perfect natural reverb to the kick and snare. I just can’t get enough, even after nearly 24 years of it!

This track takes me back... Late 90s, harmony park then onward to alpine valley then it gets real hazy after living on heady goo balls and E for a month. I miss those days but am glad I made it out fairly unscathed. The album stuff is good but you just can’t compare to the live shows, each one was different, each was original and creative. And when you’re just grooving to a song and then they grab on to one small sound or riff and trip on it for like 10 minutes or more then bring you right back to the point in the song they left behind... amazing. Do people even have the attention span for it anymore?

Yeah for those of us that were following the band and trading cassette bootlegs from the early 90s to the release of this CD, the sound quality as they were copied and re-copied would always dilute the quality and you almost never got super clean sounding mic'd drums like on this double CD release. There were maybe a handful of tapes with a quality almost to the level of this (1993 Crest Theatre / Gamehenge) and maybe another one, but mostly one of the instruments overpowered the others and the drums were never this crisp.

A Live One was my introduction to Phish as well and as a young musician I couldn’t believe my ears and was shocked that a 4 piece band could sound like that. Completely unique and original. Incredibly tight. Saw them live for the first time a few months later and was once again blown away and hooked for life.

We can argue which YEM is best, but this is top 3 for sure. The guitar solo in this is face melting and Page plays one of the funkiest organ solos I've ever heard to this day. Also as for Live One, it has (imo) the best (no jam) Chalkdust and the best Harry Hood (can also be argued, but this is my fav and always has been). The mix on Live One is unparalleled.
