Phonak's Virto B Titanium Hearing Aid is virtually invisible without sacrificing the features of larger hearing aids. It's one of my personal favorites to fit.

Hi, thanks for the review. It was very informative. I wear the Virto B UP hearing aids with a size 312 battery. One of the things that might be worth mentioning is bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with DECT devices. The lack of bluetooth on this device would be a concern for me, having a moderately severe loss, but if it was compatible with DECT that would be a bonus. I have a 60/70DB - 90DB loss, and I have tried the Virto SP chip which, although reaches my loss, doesn't really compare with a BTE in terms of sound quality etc. Even when the real ear measurement is saying it matches your prescription, it doesn't in reality translate to the full richness in sound that you experience with a BTE/RIC, so you have to be careful. I think Phonak have come a long way with packing more powerful receivers into the IIC/CIC/ITC devices, so it's good to be optimistic, but as you said in your video, you have to be careful with recommending these aids for more severe losses. Thanks again.

Great video! I'm now trying to decided between the Virto B90 and the relatively new Starkey Picasso i2400. Both have been suggested by my audiologist. Could you please me give your thoughts? The disadvantages of the V90 seem to be that they lack ear to ear communication and wireless capability. Yet I like the "automatic" nature of the V90. The V90 was first released in early 2017,. Do you anticipate that Phonak will be have a new model iic any time soon? Thanks!

Great video. Just question/observation for participating in sports i.e. wearing helmet for hangliding, mountain biking, ski-ing, rock climbing. is this the type of hearing aid i.e in the canal that is better than having a BTE. So looking for a hearing aid I'm less likely to feel uncomfortable with if pressing against my skull, less likely to loose and possible benefits from exposure to elements such as altitude, temperature and moisture. ?

In the situations you have described, yes, an ITE hearing aid would probably make more sense. Just make sure you invest in a hefty Dry & Store kit to dehydrate them after activities that cause you to sweat excessively.

Dr. Clff, do you think Vitro M-32 (not M-312 NW 0) would work for my severe hearing loss? My audiogram results shows 80-90 db loss.... I think my audiologist pulled up NW 0 to compare my hearing loss instead of the better hearing aid.... Thanks, I've enjoyed viewing so many of your informative videos. It helps since my audiologist of 40 years retired last Dec.

Thanks so much for your videos, Cliff, extremely helpful as I'm researching my first hearing aid. I'm 55 year old woman with moderate hearing loss (and very short hair). Deciding between behind the ear and in-the-ear (IIC), AND trying to determine if I need technology level Advanced or Premium. I'm testing the Audeo B-90, hearing much improved, but I take reading glasses on and off constantly, and several times the hearing aids have popped right off and hung there dangling! Doc suggested I could also test the Virto Titanium. I think it would be a good choice, and I don't think the lack of bluetooth is a big disadvantage for me. Would it make sense to test the B-70 level with the Virto, in case that's enough for me it would save me plenty! Or is that mixing things up to change format and technology level at same time?
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy. That is an extremely complex question that requires a detailed understanding of your specific needs. Tech level will make a difference depending on the complexity of environments that you find yourself in. The style change can also be a big deal depending on your hearing loss and perception of occlusion. Ultimately, I have to answer...it depends on too many factors for me to accurately identify and recommend via an KZfaq comment.

I have had Virto-B70 Titanium for a few months, making adjustments to programming... My biggest complaint is "clicking" sounds (in one of the aids) when I chew or even slightly move my jaw. It feels as if the tip of the hearing aid is touching some part of the ear canal, sticking together slightly, then "clicking" when it pulls away. It does seem to help if I swipe ear with a Q-tip and change the wax guard, but the annoying sound returns way too quickly. I am constantly poking at the hearing aid, trying to shift it to get rid of the noise. Audiologist has made 2 different shapes, most recently based on a new (open jaw) mold, which resulted in a somewhat wider aid that fits super snug and doesn't leave any "wiggle room." Am I right about cause of the sound? Any suggestions?

How are you're hearing aids doing today? i also just have mild-moderate hearing loss. I been looking into the in canal hearing aids. I went to a hearing aid specialist and he told me that i would loose my low frequency hearing because the hearing aid would be blocking the canal and no Natural sound will be going through the canal. now I'm a little concern since i don't want to wear over the ear aids.

My ENT is encouraging me to use a Lyric 3 hearing aid mostly because you sleep with them in place and he feels that this may help me sleep with tinnitus. However my ears seem to be rejecting them. I am wondering if it would be possible to sleep with the virto b titanium hearing aids recognizing that this is probably not recommended by Phonak.

Thanks John. All Phoank Virto B-Titanium devices are IICs. On occasion when ordering one for a patient who has too small of ear canals, they can't make them, and I'm required to switch to a CIC Virto-B Acrylic device. If you have Titanium, they are IICs. That being said, if the impression of your ear was too shallow, they might not sit in your ear canal as far.

Your doctor is misinformed. Discrete hearing aids typically have vents. Your hearing loss will dictate whether or not you could a discrete hearing aid with benefit. BTW...you would do way more for you students if you were a good role model who wasn't ashamed to wear hearing aids and prove that it has no impact on your intelligence or competence. This way, anytime they encounter someone with hearing loss, they would not think less of them.

I hate to sound like a complainer but I am so disillusioned by hearing aides. after parting with around 10k for aides I still cannot hear in extraneous noise surroundings. it is effecting my life considerably. I have approx. 80% hearing loss with tinnitus in my left ear and 20% loss in my right. I have had two in the ear canal aides and now I have two phonak behind the ear aides. the left one is a crossover. sorry to use harsh wording but I hate them. they make my ears stick out and the right one actually makes my ear sore. I was told it was not a good idea for me to have an in the ear canal aide and also to not use the smallest behind the ear aide because of the battery size and changing them so often. if you have any suggestions at all please offer them to me. I'm at a loss. thank you.

My hearing loss from my last test is as follows: 50 decibels at 250 Hz, 55 decibels at 500 Hz, 55 decibels at 1000 Hz, 65 decibels at 2000 Hz, 60 decibels at 4000 Hz, and 70 decibels at 8000 Hz. Do you recommend any invisible hearing aids (including this one) based on my hearing test results? Or is this out of range? These results are for my left ear, and my right ear was tested to be normal. Thanks! Hi Jambience. Based on the thresholds you've described, you would technically be in the fitting range. However, there are a number of factors that go into candidacy of these devices. In terms of who you should go see, make sure they have fit invisible in the canal hearing aids before. They are an easy one to mess up if done incorrectly. Also, make sure they do Real Ear Measurement.

Hey Jimmy. The Phonak Titanium aids usually take about 10 days to 14 days to manufacture because they are cast metal not 3D printed. Occasionally, I get these back in 8-9 days from Phonak. Custom molded hearing aids take more work by the professional and is why the overwhelming majority of hearing aids that are fit are the Receiver-in-the-canal styles that go behind the ear. I teach a class i"Consumers perspective in Buying a hearing aid" Here are some of the tips we offer. Check with the state register--are there complaints--asses. Ask if they do Real Ear Measures? (This is way of checking do they follow best practices) Remember you are in charge and hiring a consultant. Keep asking questions and why? If you think that your hearing is not the primary goal --as opposed to making a sale. Stop and go elsewhere. Know what the length and terms of the trial period are--If you have moderately severe to profound loss 30 days may not be enough--remember time waiting for appointments is a part of the equations. Use the trial period--don't feel obligated if you are not satisfied. Learn specifically what is in the bundle? A provider who works with more than one brand has more options. Is the software locked? Can you get it serviced elsewhere. (Would you buy a car if you could not get it serviced elsewhere??) Hearing Aids need service and repair. Before, during and after remember apart from the REM the HA professional has no way of telling what you are experiencing unless you tell them.

Is this effective for someone who has moderate-severe hearing loss
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
It would be borderline, but they can actually put a power receiver inside of the Titaniums, but you need enough room in your ear canal.

Doctor Cliff, AuD oh cool, thank you for letting me know. Are there any hearing aids that are less noticeable out there that are still not (very) noticeable that you would recommend for someone with moderate-severe
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
You would probably perform best, and have the least noticeable experience with a Receiver-In-Canal device. If you have any hair behind your ear at all they will probably go completely unnoticed.

Hi Kuldeep. Based on the information you provided, you are within the fitting range for these products. Also, 60% of tinnitus sufferers experience at least some reduction in tinnitus. Some do not perceive their tinnitus at all when wearing hearing aids.

Starkey should be able to change the face plate color. There may be a charge associated with this, especially if you are outside of your warranty. Just check with your hearing care provider.
