And seeing how many ads have iPhone 12 and up screen replacements for $120 Canadian $, they're 100% using LCD screens and I would bet $100 they're not telling the customer. It's very common in the repair industry.

LCDs are a better option for people that are susceptible to eye fatigue from PWM. OLEDs generally use PWM (pulse width modulation) to flicker the screen really fast to lower the brightness. Unfortunately, almost every OLED uses PWM at 240 Hz or less, and some people (like me) get eye fatigue or headaches after just a few minutes from it. So before anyone says how stupid this is, understand that it’s a cheaper screen repair and makes an iPhone 12 or 13 usable for someone who can’t tolerate PWM.

Yeah but these are golden for people who are PWM flicker sensitive on these oleds, and these don't flicker from what I know which would be awesome to replace. I will probably get an LCD one intentionally.

i honestly prefer a display with better endurance like an LCD compared to better blacks like an OLED. i hope in the future one or the other fixes its main issues so that you can get the best of both worlds

They also can produce additional stress on the mainboard due to them needing a backlight, and that backlight needs much power.

Man that’s exactly what happened to me at a local shop I took my iPhone X and may not know any better didn’t ask and they got replaced with an LCD screen instead of an OLED smh

I was using xs, switched to 11 but couldn’t use it for more than a week. Lcd display feels so bad after using oled and don’t know why but I faced a little headache as well using that. Before that I used 6s for 2 years but never felt that lcds are bad

I'm actually a big fan of LCD displays simply because I usually go long periods of time between new devices, so I would most likely see degradation such as keyboard ghosting etc. Batteries are inevitable, though.

@@MS7.7 I can join you, I have a Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, using it 6+ hours every day since November 2019, the screen is absolutely fine, no burn-ins. New OLEDs are nothing like the old crappy oversaturated Galaxy S2 screens that burn in very easily.

@@albert_gyorgy yes I agree. But man Samsung screen are the best fucking screens I ever seen in my life. It's crazy that's the first S phone is Oled. I love Apple products but I sold my iPad and Bought galaxy tab s because of how aweful the iPad screen is.

I live in Guangzhou China and sell mobile accessories for living, it's totally different market here. People are already selling s22 cases and accessories. Also I have a 4000mah battery in my Xs max. ( Actually it has 3888 mAh when you look in iphone analytics ) it's a magic world for gadget lovers.

Those lcd's need more power, so if you put an lcd on an iPhone that has an oled display, the motherboard could malfunction (if not break) careful not to use them.

I had my xs max repaired before because of my stupidity. They charged me php 6000 (117 usd) for the change of screen (LCD) while insisting its a real apple oled screen from another device. I knew it wasnt real. I just didnt said anything because I was desperate to use my phone. Fast forward to recently, my son broke my screen and I had it changed. Glad i was able to find an honest repair shop to fix it. They did install an original screen from another unit. Its still expensive for me (php 7200 or 142 usd) but the prices of the fake and real ones are so close. Safe to say I was scammed the first time. Lol

Yes but also I discover this lcd doesn’t flicker ( turn on and off all the time) the lcd that I got for my iPhone 13 stays on and feels way better for my eyes!!! Was a good thing because before I wasn’t able to read text in my oled iPhone more that 15 minutes with that oled PWM sh*t. I also double-checked with my camera and the lcd is not flickering at any brightness

Using these cheap lcd screens on oled phones is also really bad for the display drivers and power delivery. I've seen completely shot iphone x's just because some cheap repair shop wanted to save a couple bucks. They just dont last in the long run and look like crap.

The funniest thing about oled technology is that it was developed by Samsung. LG came out with a similar but different type of oleds too. Which means those iPhones with OLED screens have Samsung screens.

@@connorswartz1862 Um, not quite. Apple gives specs for size and resolution. But the screens are fully made by Samsung and LG. Sorry if you misunderstood what I was saying, I wasn't meaning that they put galaxy S10 screens in iPhones. Just because the supplier is Samsung and LG. Of course that's a tad misleading also, because Samsung makes like 65% of all LCD screens...

I think QLED is the best type of display in my opinion its like OLED but without the limited resolution facter during manufacturing QLED is easyer to make the OLED displays So QLED wins in my battle

Start from x series to the latest series they have like 3 different type of lcd display a gred based on quality 1.AAA bad display dim brightness 720p resolution no true tone 2.OEM an upgrade of AAA lcd better brightness but still low resolution no true tone 3.OLED better then both of this good quality hve true tone better brightness high resolution 4.ORIGINAL gred 1 and upgrade of oled one 5.ORIGINAL part from Apple Basically 4 of them is china products n only one is certified that is from apple itself n don't ask the price on it..

Apple made the iphone 11 as their flagship in 2019 its not a bad screen its not oversaturated like the oled but still its vibrant and a good display a premium and you know its an iphone.

it's not even the picture quality lol, the increased power consumption from requiring a backlight could damage the motherboard, so it's not worth doing to a phone like this. I'd only do it once oled iPhones get so old that you could conceivably just put in an lcd, and if that breaks the phone then who cares just replace it. But with an expensive phone like the 12 I'd rather pay extra and get an oled

LED also drain about 30% more energy from the battery, and in theory can kill the motherboard , that was not intended for this current, although I never seen this problem

I'm not a fan of LCD never have been. Until they fix the issue of OLED being so expensive and fragile you will keep seeing LCD.

You’re disregarding, in your opinion, a HUGE price differential here; soft OLED replacements: ~$200-$250, hard OLED replacements: $140-$180, and LCD replacements: $40-70. Sometimes, when you really need it fixed quick and cheap, it’s not as bad as you think. BTW, the iPhone X was a great phone at the time, and still is. Did enjoy the quick video, though! Thanks

what if you give the customer the option of LCD or OLED and the price difference and they choose the cheaper option. Is that still bad? Is there anything inherently dangerous to the phone in using an LCD instead of an OLED?

It's not a bad thing if they just want to fix it to turn it in for the new phone, or retrieve 5+ years of your life at a lower cost. I always keep those in stock, only for that reason 🙂

Incell lcd screen can damage you photo do not use I had ordered a soft oled screen they sent me a incell and I thought for the time being I’ll just use the incell until the oled one arrives boy I was wrong when I turn on the phone the logic board was heating up like crazy even had temperature warnings!!!! I immediately turned off the phone because this can cause logic board failures and you’ll be looking at an even bigger problem!!! I know this was the issue because when I put the old screen back on (the original oled screen) it was working great and not overheating!!! The reason why it’s not a good idea to use lcd or “incell” display is because the leds are backlit and will use more power then a oled with individual lit. Again do not use lcd!!! Displays on an oled phone!!!!!

You can buy replacement OLED displays for the XR I replaced my sister screen twice because she’s clumsy with OLED displays and it seems to be working fine my XR still has LCD I guess I thought it was OLED I thought they came stock with OLED

If you want to be 100% sure. Open a completely black picture in a dark room and see if you can see any light from the screen.

As bad as LCD’s look, I guess with less pixels and colors to push, maybe they could let phones achieve a longer battery life. Don’t quote me on that. I’m not really sure if that’s true or not.

Not true. This happened to me on a 12 pro max. LCD has one main backlight whereas on OLED panel each individual led has its own backlight. This has caused battery to die much much quicker on my 12 pro max.

Pretty sure the place I got my phone fixed at recently replaced my OLED with an LCD. I have an Xs and now all of the things you described (I had already noticed the blacks not being black) I can see so 🤷🏻♂️

That's why I don't trust these shops with replacing my display. I never want to use LCD screen anymore. Luckily I never had to replace my display. On my old phone I had a crack on it, but it didn't really bother me, so I just lived with it.

@@BeamDeam only reason I had to replace this one was cause I dropped my phone and the screen started pealing away from the rest of the parts for it so my touch and stuff was really messed up. So it’s better than that, but I can’t wait to upgrade it now
