Fairy UV makeup tutorial blacklight photography video of my newest fantasy photoshoot. Watch how our model transforms into a uv blacklight fairy, fairie or elf, in this uv makeup tutorial video with photo results of the photoshoot.
Faeries and mythical creatures have always inspired me. It had been a while since my last fantasy photoshoot, and I really wanted to do one. I hadn't seen makeup artist Marthe Neus in a few months either due to our busy schedules, so we decided to collaborate on this fairy fantasy makeup tutorial photoshoot for our work reunion.
Our model is wearing I-Glow UV lenses. The UV blacklight makeup we used in this fantasy fairy blacklight photoshoot was Kryolan Aquacolor UV day Glow. UV makeup only glows in UV black light lamps; which is why this blacklight fantasy photoshoot was done in the dark, with only the UV blacklight lamps as 'light source'.
To make sure the image quality of the blacklight photos would be okay, I worked with large apertures (small f numbers), medium to high ISO'S (400 and 800), and relatively slow shutter speeds (1/50 sec, 1/80 sec for example). Can you recomend some other kind of aquacolor UV facepaint (not in tubes), because I have looked everywhere and I can not find a single site that ships Kryolan to Sweden. Awesome photos btw! :)

You could e-mail a Dutch company called Glowspecialist at www.glowspecialist.nl/contents/nl/d111_Over_onss.html and ask them if they would mind shipping it to Sweden (and what it would cost). I got most of my blacklight equipment from them, they even sponsored some of my photoshoots, and are really nice. They sell Kryolan, you can find all the blacklight make-up they sell on this page: www.glowspecialist.nl/contents/nl/d92_Blacklight_make-up_.html Other than Kryolan I've not used any other brand so far, so I cannot recommend anything else at the moment :).

how did you get the outer eye to glow?? very very curious, is she wearing normal prescripted contacts and the effect sort of just happened or is it an fx uv contact lens. Most videos either use the uv lenses or the eyes aren't very visible. great job btw!!

*Pink lipstick. Is your screen calibrated ;)? Thanks for the comment though. This was our very first blacklight fairy, so we experimented & didn't plan it before. I'll settle with a C for random and impulsive makeup! Will do more planning in our next blacklight makeup video :).

This black ink What's Past in the model, what kind of ink is this? Can I use any black ink Skin?

Because she has a pale skin, and a pale skin looks purple under blacklight :) (and we didn't want that this time). You can see an example of how pale skin looks under blacklight in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNWFgaqlqL6Vf6s.html.

I'm really interested in trying this for personal use, but not sure what specific blacklight lamp I need to use, I'm Dutch as well and your information is really useful, just a bit at loss for the appropriate lamp!

+Chelsey As long as it's a good blacklight (no cheap imitation) you'll be fine. I use a 'gun' armature and a 'floodlight'. Both have 400 watt blacklights in them: so the same lamps, but the armatures are just a bit different. The gun is great if you want to concentrate your UV light; the flood light if you want to spread it more. But, if you are only using them on a model's face, either will really do. If you want specific recommendations I recommend to contact Glowspecialist.nl; they have a bunch of lights and can exactly tell you what to get (I got my blacklight 'gun' and floodlight from them). :)
