Photoelectric Sensors detect objects, changes in surface conditions, and other items through a variety of optical properties. A Photoelectric Sensor consists primarily of an Emitter for emitting light and a Receiver for receiving light. When emitted light is interrupted or reflected by the sensing object, it changes the amount of light that arrives at the Receiver. The Receiver detects this change and converts it to an electrical output. The light source for the majority of Photoelectric Sensors is infrared or visible light (generally red, or green/blue for identifying colors).

Some informations are wrong. Because 3 wire sensor means two wires for power and 3rd one is for output. It can be PNP or NPN And 4 wire sensor means two wires for power and 3rd and 4th wire for NC and NO output. It can be NPN or PNP.

How can i use photoelectric sensor in a dusty environment... I am planning to install a photoelectric sensor on top of hopper of a chakki and sometimes i need to grind course powder. So while adding it inside hopper, dust can be seen flying around the hopper. So how can i install sensor on the top as dust may settle on the sensor glass and this will result in inaccurate operation... Pls help me as how can i overcome this issue !

Try to replace photoelectric sensor with industrial grade ultrasonic sensor it works better in dirty environment..
