Photographing Hummingbirds on a Rainy Day in Ecuador

We continued our hummingbird photography tour in Ecuador and spent two days at Casa Simpson in Joco Toco’s Tapichalaca Reserve. Although it was raining all day, I was able to photograph a new hummingbird species for me: the Little Sunangel. I also saw some old friend hummingbirds like the Amethyst-throated Sunangel, the Chestnut-breasted Coronet and the Speckled Hummingbird. The hummingbirds really enjoyed bathing in the rain.

It is amazing the colors hummingbirds have created to adapt to their environments. The range of bright colors is just mesmerizing. That one poor Little Sunangel really had an itch that it could not scratch enough. It is to bad to do not get frequent rider miles for all the miles you drive to get to your destinations. My favorite was the Little Sunangel. As always William's aerial photography was impeccable.

The Little Sunangel is such a precious bird, oh my goodness. Those Coronets are spunky! This entire video was so relaxing and made my Sunday complete, thank you. The transition of video at 2:29 range was perfect, great editing. Quality of the video and photos is perfect as always!

We had 4-5 Hummingbirds. Now we got 2. I'm noticing a larger hummingbird is chasing off the smaller one. So I'm assuming that one big hummingbird chased off the others. I got 2 feeders and make my own nectar, but I still think that big one is guarding both feeders. Trying to come up with a plan for a third feeder elsewhere.

Thank you for all your time and care you put into making your videos. As you are giving to others, I want to give back with a true blessing.
