Hello guys, I have finally hit 1000 subscribers! Never thought i'd hit the big 1K but here I am and i'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has subscribed and supported the channel.
As promised, in todays video I am in a PAID HIDE photographing wild kingfishers with the canon 7d mkii & 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM ii lens.
I will be talking a little bit about my settings and how to photograph kingfishers in flight. I will also take you through how to create and use custom modes for the canon 7d mkii. Using custom modes when photographing wildlife from a hide is a super useful tip to save you time when adjusting your settings depending on what type of photograph you want to achieve. Here I show the two different types of setting I used to get photographs of kingfishers in flight and perched.
The canon 7dmkii is still a great camera and is worth an investment even today. The 10fps and great auto focus allowed me to get some truely epic photographs. The kingfisher is a very small, lightweight and fast moving bird and so it is important you have a camera that can keep up and that is why I am using the canon 7d mkii with the 100-400mm lens. The perfect combo for this situation.

Oh Ben 😲. Bloody hell that shot of the kingfisher with its wings flared leaving the water. How. Just how the hell. I mean all the photos were amazing but that shot. I think I'd sell my camera after that honestly lol cause, can it get better than that. Not really. Plenty do wildlife channels but the subtle difference is the editing isn't it. Your editing skills really are where the magic is. I'm guessing you're sending the links or versions of these to various organisations. It is so competent. The music is so well chosen, the camera angles, the suspense. Just perfect 😍👍. I'm gonna watch it again. Cant believe it. And all that hard work, time and effort is paying off. I have to say I was very surprised myself with the photos I managed to get! But with little help from Pete (the guy who owns the site) I was able to get some of the most amazing shots of the kingfisher. I am so glad that you enjoyed this video Adam. thanks for the tips, I have the previous 7D I did everything there for the c1, but it turns out that in the 7D the c1 was in Manual the c2 in P and the c3 P, but at least the seting was recorded

Nice video ! I am currently thinking about upgrading to the 7d2 and i have a question concerning the custom modes. It save the exposure settings but does it also save the AF settings ? Can u set, for example, C1 for birds in flight with af servo and c2 for portraits with single shot af ?

Hi Ben just found your channel, great vlog. Thanks for the tip on custom settings, I have taken many static shots of Kingfishers but so far nat captured a flight shot or coming out of the water where I have nailed tack sharp focus. Sat in a hide yesterday for 5 hours and it didn't turn up, trying again on Wednesday. Stay safe and keep them coming Cheers

Nice vlog Ben with some nice shots, I’ve got the 7D mk11 and 1DX mk11 and I use the 3 custom settings almost permanently, it’s the first thing I set up, never understood why more people don’t make use of them, my normal settings are for inflight sky shots, low inflight shots with backgrounds and perched shots, saves a lot of time just being able to turn the dial ! 👍📷🦅 cheers Terry

Hi Ben, I own a Canon 7d Mark II as well. Do You shoot in raw or jpeg? If Jpeg, then which Picture Style do You use. What values do you set for Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation and Picture tone?

Hi Gary, yes I would is the short answer haha. The 7dii is old now however it still produces amazing images when put with the 100-400 lens. I'd recommend it if your looking for really good image quality images on a budget as you can get this set up fairly cheap if you buy used. Thnaks for watching :)
