This Nikon D850 photo shoot in the woods with endurance athletes at a Tuff Scramblers Obstacle Course represented a series of challenges. We had to light the whole forest environment, and light the runners effectively, and manage a huge bonfire, and flood a narrow ravine to create a muddy stream. We used a combination of large flash, and an array of gelled SB-5000 Speedlights to provide rim lighting to complement the runners’ explosive action. And then, we had to rely on the accurate auto-focus of the Nikon D850 to key on the lead runner, using a Nikkor 200-400mm f4 lens. Lots of moving parts! The aim was to create something dynamic, roughly akin in feel to an action movie poster. Fun to do, and as always, kudos to our wonderful team out there in the field, and these amazing athletes!
