Great video - I photographed my first barn owl this month, the first of many I hope. Keep the videos coming. PS any recommendations on gimbals and tripods for a Sony 150-600mm?

Fun video Simon. You're patience rewarded. You're right about the 7d noise issues which is currently what I have. I've recently found some software (denoise) that is quite impressive at managing it in post-processing. Look forward to your iceland vids. Keep it up.
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The original 7D wasn't the best for noise but the 7D Mark II is much better. This is where the full frame bodies come into their own but of course come with a much higher price tag. Both cameras have their pros and cons. Cheers

@@SimonWantling canon are supposedly releasing the 90d later this year that replaces both the 7d and 80d. There is also a 1dx update coming soon. Let's see what they have in store.

My family and I are going to be in England in February of 2020. What are the odds of seeing little owls and barn owls at that time of year? Where are the areas that you have on your videos? I photograph and watch owls in my area of Ontario, Canada and would be very interested in doing the same on our trip. You can message me if you would like to keep the area a little more private. Thanks for your very informative videos.

Very nice video. Which Gitzo Series do you use for your 600?
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, I use the 6 series - GT5532LS. I actually don't think they make it anymore but an awesome tripod but pricey. I'm sure they must have a latest version of it.

What focus points do you use for the owls?
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, when I was using my Canon 1DX mark II until recently I would tend to use single point with the surrounding 8 points active but now with the R5 I generally use the animal eye AF which is stunning. It's not perfect by any means but extremely good for tracking subjects like this. especially on barn owls as the contrast between the owls eye and surrounding feathers is very high.
@vonubergang489
@vonubergang489 5 жыл бұрын
Did you use any +/- exposure compensation?
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Von, I always shoot in full manual. For barn owls I tend to shoot -2/3 of a stop to control the whites when the conditions where as they were in this video. I always tend to shoot negative exposure on barn owls. Thanks
