I set out to photograph one species and walked away with images of another! In this weeks video, I use another natural photo blind (hide) to get closer to local wildlife, birds/waterfowl. Using a photo blind is a wonderful way to get more intimate images of wildlife and simply get close enough to even be able to photograph some species that you wouldn't be able to otherwise. Photo blinds work especially well for waterfowl photography and other bird photography. Over the past 18 months or so, I've become addicted to photographing ducks and in this video, I get images of another species that I haven't really photographed much in the past.
Making a photography blind (hide) out of the natural vegetation can work extremely will if you do so correctly. If you have any questions about the process, check out this recent video where I use a natural blind to photograph River Otters and I explain the process and some things to remember while doing so:

Super video, Jimmy! Beautiful natural blind. Thanks for taking us along. You asked which ducks we'd like to photograph more - also teals, but why not shovelers and red-crested pochards also. And from similar non-duck waterbirds I really like the little grebe.

Thanks so much for watching and for your comment! The Shovelers were fun, need to get more content of them! I'm not familiar with the Red-crested Pochard, I'm going to look it up right now 😁

Another fun video Jimmy!! We've had a great year with the waterfowl and I have wanted to try your natural blind technique but we had so much snow this winter and all the growth around the marshes has been flattened and the spring has been so cold nothing has recovered yet. Lately I have been focused on the large number of Wood ducks and Ring neck ducks that we have right now. The Harlequins seemed to have left until next fall but for sure the Wood ducks are my favorite. Have a great week and I look forward to next Sunday!!

Thank you 🙏 You have an amazing selection of waterfowl images, I can't wait to see what you get in the coming months! Wood Ducks are so beautiful, one of the prettiest out there in my opinion. Yeah, I highly recommend trying a natural blind when conditions permit, it's such a wonderful technique!

Another fantastic video Jimmy and awesome pictures!! You know, for me photoblinds are vital in wildlife photography because they allow to stay in nature without disturbing so much. Great work!!! 😉

Thanks you and I couldn't agree with you more! That's one of the main reasons I use blinds, just like you said it's a great way to observe animals without disturbing them at all 😊

So much fun! The synchronized head bobbing was mesmerizing! Weather in Nebraska has been brutal - 50/60 mph wind on a daily basis. Hoping next weekend will be better! I tried a home-made ghillie blanket from shore the other day. My goodness - I think it picked up every stray branch and leaf on the refuge! 🤣 Going to try this natural blind method next.

It seems that weather just about everywhere has been pretty wild lately 🥴 Haha, yeah they'll pick up every twig, sticker and everything else it touches. I've found I have to check mine for hitchhiking seeds after each use so I don't unknowingly introduce some invasive plant to an area it shouldn't be.

Well my favorite water fowl is whatever I can get close to. I’m not picky. One of my best rated photos on ebird is of a Coot, rated top 5 with 70 ratings. Always like those cinnamon teals though. Great video. I know all the work and time involved.

This is really nice! I wonder why you have chosen this blind over the floating blind?
@JimmyBreitenstein
@JimmyBreitenstein 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Great question, the area that the ducks were in was extremely shallow and I'd have been hunched over the whole time. In the blind. I love the floating blind, but it gets so hard to use in shallow water 🥴
