Photography composition techniques or ‘’rules’’ like the rule of thirds are fantastic ways to take visually pleasing images, however sometimes I see photographers following all of the ‘’rules’’ but making the mistake of placing their subject incorrectly in the frame. Now of course this is all subjective and open to debate, but there is definitely key ways in which you can place or compose your subject in order to get the most balanced and striking photos.

Great video mate! Some really useful tips! I think the subtleties, like the examples you shared in this video of the direction subjects are looking etc, are often the things that make the biggest difference when it comes to composition and balance. All simple to implement when you know but something a lot of photographers will overlook!

Good overview of balance scale, framing and a little bit on symmetry! Other than portraits, I prefer to not put the subject in the center of the frame; not necessarily a rule of thirds point of view, but I find the image to be much more pleasing if the subject isn't always in the center, showing a bit more of the environment.

Classic topics, classy presentation.👍. The concept of balance in a composition is usually addressed in terms of relationship among elements, but your approach takes a new twist. People as a scale indication is a well established and useful tip, as is avoidance of subjects looking outside the frame. Overlays effective in making your points. (Lupin cameo a plus😊.) Suggestion: Say your name at the start of each post. Where channel titles are not host names, it’s kinda a YT “norm” to do so. Builds rapport w/viewers. (Had to dig into your web site to find “Greg Howard” at page bottom. ) Cheers!

Yeah to me there’s nothing that makes a photo feel more off balance than a person in a less than ideal place in the frame! - as for my name that’s on purpose, I prefer to separate my work & videos from me as Greg. That might change the further I get into KZfaq though, will give it a good think through that’s for sure as I’ve considered changing the channel to my real name a few times. Cheers fella! 🙏
