Let's take a look back at SPIE Photonics West 2023. This event, combined with the colocated SPIE AR | VR | MR conference, brought in more than 22,000 registered attendees from 85 countries!
Every year, Photonics West brings together top experts, researchers, and industry leaders in photonics. Our brilliant speakers share their cutting-edge knowledge and showcase the latest trends in this rapidly evolving discipline. In 2023, we heard about the first demonstration of fusion ignition, how wearable tech is changing the healthcare world, the latest developments in technologies such as SRS imaging, PICs, tandem photovoltaic devices, applied quantum cryptography, and much, much more. Oh, and we introduced Quantum West as a full conference! In total, the 2023 event included over 4,500 technical presentations.
But Photonics West is not just about technical sessions and presentations. We believe in fostering a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for our attendees. That's why we provide ample opportunities for you to connect with peers and potential collaborators outside of the session rooms. In 2023, we introduced Lunch & Learn events focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion topics; interactive workshops to train young researchers on effective communication skills and job search strategies; and frequent networking opportunities aimed at executives, students, SPIE Members, exhibitors, and more.
Speaking of exhibitors, don't forget about the two world-class exhibitions: the BiOS Expo and Photonics West Exhibition, which included over 1,400 exhibitors in 2023. You catch a small glimpse at them in this video, but seeing them in person is simply unbeatable! (Did we mention exhibit passes are free?!)
And, we would be remiss not to mention the social activities. Every year, our team plans fun social events where you can unwind and have fun with fellow photonics enthusiasts. In 2023, we hosted "Paws for a Break" sessions where attendees could take a break from their busy conference agenda to pet therapy dogs (and one rabbit!). Plus, the annual, ever-popular Photonics West Welcome Reception was aptly Star Wars-themed, including captivating visual displays, interactive installations, a very on-theme menu, and a dance number featuring Jedis, droids, and one well-known Wookie.
