1. Create a New Document.
Select File-New or Ctrl+N. Fill in the dimensions width: 3000 pixels, height: 3000 pixels, resolution: 300 Pixels/Inch, Color Mode: RGB Color and Background Contents: White. Click OK button.
2. Select the Heart Shape.
Click the Custom Shape Tool icon in the tool panel. In the options bar, please select the shape, fill color, and heart shape.
3. Create a Love Shape in the Document.
Click the mouse on the top left corner of the document, then drag to the bottom right to form a heart.
4. Show Grid.
Select the View-Show-Grid or Ctrl+' command.
Select the View-Snap or Ctrl+Shift+; command. The Snap command will make it easier for us to arrange collage boxes.
5. Set Grid.
Select Edit-Preferences-Guides, Grid & Slices. Set the “Gridline every” column to 5 percent and the “Subdivision” column to 1.
6. Select the Rectangle Tool.
Click the rectangle tool icon on the toolbar. In the options bar, please select Shape, select the Fill color and stroke size.
7. Create a Shape on the document.
Click then drag to create a shape. For each shape we create in the document, Photoshop will automatically create a layer for that shape.
8. Set the Position and Size of the Shape Using Free Transform.
Click on one of the shape layers, then select the Edit-Free Transform menu or you can also press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+T. You will see a Free Transform box surrounding your shape. Please set the position and size in the following way:
- Please use the arrow keys or click-drag using the mouse to adjust its position.
- To increase the size of the shape, while holding down the Shift key, click on the Free Transform guide line then drag it out.
- Meanwhile, to reduce the size of the shape, while pressing the Shift key, click on the Free Transform guide line then drag it in.
- Press the Shift key to keep the shape size proportional.
- Or you can also click on the corner of the Free Transform box then drag it in or out without needing to press the Shift key.
- Press the Enter button to commit Free Transform.
9. Duplicate the Shape Layer.
Duplicate the shape layer by selecting Layer-Duplicate Layer or Ctrl+J. Please adjust the size and position using Edit-Free Transform as in step 8.
10. Delete the Heart Layer.
The heart image as an auxiliary image is no longer needed. You can delete the heart layer or simply remove the visibility option.
11. Layer Group.
While pressing the Shift key, click all the rectangle layers then select the Layer-Group Layers menu or Ctrl+G.
12. Save File As Template.
Select the File-Save menu. Save this template file so that one day you can use it again.
13. Insert the photo into the document.
Select the layer (rectangle) that you want to insert the photo into. Select the File-Place command in the menu above to open the photo you want to insert. Click on the photo, then click the OK button. You can edit photos in the following ways:
- Change the size of the photo by clicking-drag on the corner of the Free Transform box while pressing the Shift key to keep the photo size proportional.
- To move a shape, click-hold on the image then drag it to the position you want.
- Rotate the photo by moving the mouse away from one corner until you see two arrows. Click-hold, then drag.
- Press the Enter button when finished.
14. Create a Clipping Mask.
Select the Layer-Create Clipping Mask command or Alt+Ctrl+G.
15. Insert another photo.
Repeat steps 13 and 14 to insert all your photos into the document.
16. Add Background Color/Pattern.
Click the Background layer, then select the Edit-Fill menu, I will select pattern then click the OK button.
