My students loved this game! We added an extra (a little confusing, but exciting) twist. We had two different colored dodgeballs for each team so that we can tell whether or not teams were being sneaky and scoring in the right container/not taking balls out of the container. We also added a little bit of dodgeball into the game to make sure all the dodgeballs were being returned to either sides. Basically, if for example, green team caught yellow team's ball, they can proceed to get the yellow team members "out" by hitting them with the yellow dodgeball. (Below the shoulders). Overall, fun game! The kids want to play it often.

Just played it today. Our middle schoolers LOVED it. I agree with setting up a "buffer" so the defense can't puppy guard.

+Matthew Fox We have adjusted. Making a buffer was too difficult. We made a rule that you can only have 2 guards at the container and 2 at the prison.

This is a great game. Grades 3-5 really enjoyed it. For games that are competitive, I always build a time limit into the game. It acts as a reset for the entire class and ensures no one is standing frozen (like Yoshi or Pirates) for too long. I typically make the games like pirates, yoshi, capture the ball, 4 minutes long. It is a huge problem solver for kids who might be frozen or are frustrated, too competitive, etc. We end up playing many rounds or games rather than one never ending game.

My 4-6th graders love this game! I flip the game and make it so the team that has the fewest dodgeballs in their containers are the winners at the end of duration. If a player makes a basket, I allow that player a free walk back to his or her side and 10 seconds to empty their team's container. I also only allow one player to guard the jail. This makes escaping from jail a challenge, but not too frustrating.

Hi, can you only score a basket if you are in jail or can anyone on your team score a basket? Thanks

Good question, it’s really up to you. Probably to keep things simple anyone would be able to score a basket (whether from jail, on their own side, or on opponents side) :)

Why would students put balls into the container only to have the other team get them all if they score a basket? Seems like putting balls in the container only hurts your team in the end...

can a player take more than one ball to place in the container if they choose to run across to the other teams side? Can a player pick up balls that are on the other teams floor?

it's really hard to hear especially because the person talking is mumbling, I suggest for them to speak clearer in future videos !
