Physical Therapy Restores Walking After Stroke

Upon admission to Helen Hayes Hospital following a stroke, Joe had right sided weakness and poor balance. At the start of his physical therapy sessions, he required the assistance of two therapists to walk.
With intensive physical therapy focused on strengthening and motor learning, Joe progressed from requiring two people to walk to walking with assistance from one therapist and the use of a cane and orthotic. The orthotic helped Joe control his right knee and foot during walking.

Those who help us to get back to our daily life without any physical contraints are actually GOD to my eyes. Nobody wants to be bedridden regardless we are poor or rich. This is the kind of treatment we expect from all hospitals staffs.

To those people getting mad about the gait belt situation: use your common sense!.Not all patients require a damn belt..Ofcourse if your patient is a fall risk, then use you clinical judgement and use one!.And some areas (US), consider it as a restraint..In this video, the therapist clearly knows her patient well and understands the risks..
@rachelm8232

So she was really getting Joe to weight-bear through the right leg and increase clearance when he swings the right leg(mini-hurdles). When Joe was going up the steps she cued him to step up with the right leg first as an exercise activity to increase weight-bearing and stability on right leg. Very effective activity. Generally though you want to step up with the strong leg first when going up stairs and step down with the weak leg first when going down stairs, as it is much safer. This is excellent Physical Therapy, just wanted to mention that to folks for their safety. Only practice these activities with your PT or once you get further along in your rehab with a family member or friend. Best wishes to all you stroke warriors who are fighting the good fight.

Daddy had a stroke 5 years ago. He slept in the hospital for 10 days. Then he was put in rehab. When he was only 55 years old, he was put in an old people's home and all the residents there were so much older than him. 55 years old is pretty young. Daddy is almost 60 years old now. Mommy has to work hard every day to take care of Daddy. Sometimes me and my 6 little brothers help her with taking care of him. When Daddy had a stroke, me and everybody in my big family and our friends prayed for him to get better. And now he can walk, but he has to use a cane and a wheelchair and he can talk, but his favorite word is change. And Mommy always calls him dude. Daddy needs lots of therapy like speech therapy and physical therapy. Sometimes, the boys take him out for walks when it's nice out. And sometimes, Daddy's friends from his work come to the house. Like when I told my little brothers to take Daddy for a walk outside, they were sleeping. All of them were sleeping.

This is not one day project...Every day yo be done... Have seen my relatives and my dad..everyday is a progress... surrounded people hav to teach and talk to them and motivate..First have to start with bed exercises then make them sit everyday...make them stand everyday and ask thwm to press the affected leg as much as they can...next is good food..adding pepper turmeric and veegtables and greens to diet helps..other tip is using oil massage we use narayana thaila and also ayurveda thaila sudarshana thaila massage from amazon.. progress is slow but worth it..we shoild alsontry to get a flouwer cot so affected person can bend their body make them sit in cot itself
