Physics Simulations + LuxRender (4K)

I've missed making these KEVA physics simulations. I wanted to wrap up a few projects I had going, a lot of them involving Phymec inspired KEVA plank physics simulations in LuxRender. I had lots of tower collapse simulations that I had never got round to rendering, so I rendered them all in this LuxRender orange plank style.
LuxRender has some great results and every time I use it the render speed blows me away. These still took, collectively, about 2 weeks to render but when you bear in mind how realistic the shading is (and the fact they're in 4K ultra HD!) it doesn't seem too bad.
I've been tempted recently to move away from Blender, and start working in something more industry standard. But Blender is still my favourite simulation software, because of just how versatile it is! Blender physics looks awesome, and it's got such a wide variety of simulation engines.

You make a fluid domain sim then use a rigid body as a static or animated object. It's not dynamic.

the most important setting is probably the substeps - increase it to make your towers more stable

Hey, Moby. Cool video as always. Why are some planks sometimes flickering when they are on the floor? e.g. @ 1:55 by the base of the tower.

I used a mode in LuxRender that instances similar objects to speed up rendering - for some reason that messed up some planks and made them flicker. Turning this off fixes the problem

I've seen stick towers like this get knocked down in real life, and there is a lot more bounce when they hit the ground. It's like something is absorbing all the kinetic energy.

What are your render settings? I'm trying to render an animation in 1440p and it gets pixelated compared to your render. I tried turning up from 50% to 100%, AVI raw or mpeg. Still no good.

It looks like columns are not connected with rebar like real building. This is more like Jenga where pieces are just place on top of each other, correct? Is it possible to simulate real building structure? I wonder how it would look like. (sorry about my english)

The easiest way is to increase the render resolution to 200% - because 4K is twice the resolution of 1080p in each axis

@Moby Motion Oh hey! Glad you’re checking out your comments and interacting with your videos. I kinda like them slow though because I just pretend that they are huge structures and they just *look* like they are falling slowly.
