Wow, 5 days every 6 months, that's awesome! After developing a severe asthmatic histamine intolerance I started a fasting lifestyle 9 months ago to heal my immune system. I've done 3 3-day, 1 4-day, and 1 5.5-day fasts in that time along with intermittent fasting the rest of the time. *I agree, it's definitely easier than it was at first* (I freaked out at 25 hours and ate dinner the first time I tried to go longer than OMAD, LOL), and I'm 48 hours into one right now feeling a tinge of hunger, but mostly out of habit; it's time for when I usually eat during the day.

@@allhimwithme5115 I usually drink plain seltzer water when hunger starts. It works well if you catch it early, less effective if you get hangry. I always make sure to drink plenty of water and hour or so before bed too, because I cannot sleep if I'm hungry. Day 2 is usually the worst for me, by day 3 I feel like I can conquer the world. I've gone 7 days, but I see no benefit really after 5. Good luck to you on your fast, and drink plenty of water, maybe try the seltzer. Don't be afraid to add some electrolytes as well, salt makes a huge difference if you feel lethargic or get a headache.

Good video as always ;D! Is there such a breakdown also for the fmd diet results? Could that potentially lead to better lipid panel numbers due to less stress/ketone activation? Cuz Longo seems to be quite certain it's good for all values if I remember right?

Thanks, A. :) There will be a detailed breakdown for that study, as well. I need to put it all together, but its absolutely planned. I think it easily could, but I'm also not convinced the lipid changes are drastic enough to make any real difference - it's something I expect to look into further one day.

In my opinion, 5 days is just getting started for any real fasting benefits. Tyler Tolman has a great KZfaq video on extended water fasting. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. has a good book on fasting though I do not agree with his food protocol. I got started after reading Rational Fasting by Arnold Ehret in 1973. I find a great burst of energy on the tenth day of a water-only fast myself. I have only gone as long as 30 days on only water. I used to do a lot of juicing but now I am Carnivore.

Eating once a day (OMAD) solves the problem of short term fasting effects. If you fast daily you will have lasting benefits, not like doing one 5 day fast and then going back to your usual programming, that's pointless.

I'm rather interested in doing a 1-5 day water fast (haven't decided how long I want to do it, or if I'm even going to do it). My biggest reservation is how it affects muscle mass. I'm a regular gym-goer and have made good progress in my 6 months of consistent training, and a critical part of growth is adequate protein intake. The obvious problem in water fasting is... no protein intake whatsoever. Do you think it would even be beneficial for someone like me to do a small water fast? Thanks for these videos, they're extremely interesting and well put together!
@Physionic
@Physionic 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely understand that fear. No doubt a water fast will not help in your ability to gain muscle, but its detrimental impact will be dependent on how lean and muscular you are currently. Ultimately, however, you won't lose any appreciable amount of muscle, especially if you decide on a 1-2 day fast. That said, if this becomes routine (every month doing 5 days fasting - you'll notice muscle gain will be impaired). Hope it helps, Benjamin!

I'm _ripped_ like I was 20 years ago when I lifted weights from all the stem cells and growth hormone from going hard core into a fasting lifestyle 9 months ago. I'm 51, female, 5'2", 102 lbs and built like a house. My scale says 17% body fat; my veins pop in my hands and arms and I can do 3 chin ups and a pull-up at once. I just live my homestead life; I don't really do weight training, per se. Autophagy goes after your JUNK PROTEIN not your muscles. I hope you decided to go all in.

@@Physionic I'm stunned to hear you say that a 5-day water fast won't help you build muscle. The more I fast the more ripped I am. Stem cells, HGH, and breaking fasts with enough protein for when mTOR turns back on and my body goes to TOWN on building muscle!

@@allhimwithme5115awesome bro do you think its a good idea to water fast once per week while bulking to burn any excess fat gained and produce more human growth hormone?
@allhimwithme5115
@allhimwithme5115 6 ай бұрын
@@im_attracted_to_my_4yo_sister I've been toying with that idea, doing 24 hours every week, although HGH kicks in around 72 hours, I think, and that's pretty extreme for weekly. I'm also considering doing a 3- to 4-day water fast or 1- to 2-day dry fast once a month and minimally IF in between with about 14 hours fasting per day which is very comfortable for me. That would amp up HGH and stem cells a lot more than OMAD once a week. I still have gut healing to do (minimal it seems) as evidenced by my light rosacea still stubbornly present. I'm a woman, by the way, LOL. I'm assuming I'd even be more bulked for what I've been doing if I were a man given the extra testosterone. It's the refeed that's critical in fast recovery and building the body in every way, not just muscularly.

Very interesting video. Just speculating here as well (sorry if it sounds a bit farfetched) , but could it be that the elevated triglycerides over a three month period may be caused by possible autophagy of fatty tissue during a waterfast (caused by the inflammation of fatty tissue). If there is less fat storage tissue available to store triglycerides, this could then explain a slightly higher presence in the blood after the waterfast period as the body cannot store it as easy. If so, the amount of autophagy during a waterfast may also vary between individuals (maybe based upon a variation in energy demand between individuals) thereby offering a possible explanation for the larger variation in triglyceride presence in the blood serum after three months. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for all of the information!

Accoring to the reuslts he showed, at Day 98 waist circumference reduction was maintained, by about 8cm (3.1 inches), which is actually pretty significant. I wish he had spent more time on this. He just glossed over it. As an experienced prlonged faster myself, my experience corroborates this long term reduction in waist cirucumference. At minimum, doesn't this suggest a long term reduction in visceral adiposity?

Have you looked at the USC study on a 72 hour fast rebooting the immune system? Does it look like a well done study or was it flawed? I did a 72 hour fast for the first time in March of 2020 after Covid was declaired a pandemic. It does seem like my immune system improved a bit but hard to say since everyone was social distancing. I work in the public schools so I am exposed to just about everyone. I have been sick a few times since then but it does seem like my body fights things off faster. This could be due to me cutting out almost all sugar from my diet too.

Great in-detail analysis! As for the statistics part, I would also consider multiple pair-wise t-tests as an error in the analysis unless a correction was applied for multiple t-testing. (I have to say that I only took statistics I and statistics II, so I also have limited knowledge). Does it break ketosis if for example a glass of fruit juice is consumed? I would presume since glucose will be available, the body would enter glycolysis and interrupt the ketosis state. What do you think, or know about that?

Didn't catch what participants ate before study ,or, after study, but, TG being up after 3 months might be due to continued fat burning preference over carbs?. Lots of hype past few years now about fasting and especially water only fasting. But, surprisingly, no one mentions the" PREPOSTEROUS " notion that anyone could survive that long without eating carbs, because as all vegans will tell you, glucose is the preferred fuel for the body. Yet, here are people surviving without glucose intake, using only the glucose that the liver provides, one teaspoon! What? People can live on protein and fats , no carbs?
