Piódão Historical Village
The Historical Village of Piódão constitutes an architectural complex of rare beauty due to its natural setting, but also due to its antiquity, unity and state of preservation of the buildings, being nicknamed by many as “nativity scene village” given its configuration that spreads across the slope of the river. hill with slate and slate houses and windows and doors painted blue, in an amphitheater.
It fits into the typology of “Historic Villages”. It is known that the village of Piódão served as a shelter for many who wanted to hide, either for political reasons in more severe times, or for legal reasons. However, it wasn't just fugitives who looked for her. In the 19th century, Canon Manuel Fernandes Nogueira founded a college that prepared students for entry into the seminary. Many boys from Beira Interior went to school between 1886 and 1906.
The history of the village is lost in the darkness of time. There are few traces that allow us to reconstruct history, however, the archaeological finds in Chãs d'Égua are an important testimony to the possible antiquity of the village.
The town of Piódão is classified as a Property of Public Interest by Decree no. 95/78, DR, I Series, no. 210, of 12-09-1978
