Lol, I used to play the keyboard for a few years when I was kid, but I didn't understand the beauty of the music, and especially the piano music, at that time. It was just a few weeks ago, I heard a piano song so beautiful, it made me cry. Right then and there I knew I have to buy a piano. Yesterday, I listened to one of your videos about the flow of hands. Later at home, I tried it on my newly bought digital piano and I could dance with my right hand on the keys, felt the weight of my arm in every finger I hit the keys with, I was so happy that I went onto creating a simple melody (although it's more on a sad side) and I dedicated it to you. =D

Thank you! When I was studying, I was practicing 5-10 hours per day. Now I teach and I have less time for practice - but I still practice about 2 hours per day. Yes, there is a big risk of 'over-practicing' if you play mechanically, with tensed arms/wrists. Practicing correctly is more important than practicing a lot! Plus, we have to increase our practice time gradually - this way we'll avoid hand injuries! ;)

There is just one thing to say: FANTASTIC! Why? The number one reson to fail (in any activity, btw) is the lack of "correct information" a.k.a knowledge. Number 2, of course is its incorrect application. And while we are at it: number 3 would probably not working towards your main goals. -- Just watching the intro of Ilinca's course creates a strong resonance; do take a look yourself (nope, not selling here) -- the message hits ALL the nails. [me: Steinway A-188, curr. Beethoven Op 13+27]-Thx!

Hi Nadine! Yes, it's entirely possible to become a professional if you start learning piano at 16-18. I actually know a wonderful concert pianist and piano teacher who started when he was 17! :))) However, it's important to have a good teacher, to practice correctly and regularly, and to have lots of dedication and perseverance! Passion can move mountains! :)))

The method seems very effective. We can all relate to this fact, bec the reason why hand movement is restricted is that we as a beginner have spent weeks practising 1234 1234 on static position. This static can be relieved if we start with just one finger to play Ode to Joy, and then afterwards start 1234.
@pianocareer
@pianocareer Жыл бұрын
Yes, the static finger-only method is incredibly dangerous - and sadly it is still being promoted by many teachers. I recorded an entire video on this topic, where I explain how this outdated technique appeared, what are its downsides - and why/how we need to transition to the ergonomic whole-arm action. It's episode No. 2 from my new 'Piano Myths' series, which is available for free for our email subscribers. You can get all 7 episodes here: www.pianocareer.com/7-dangerous-piano-myths/

Great tutorials, love all the details. There is a wonderful Hindustani piece that not only me but whole bunch of others are trying to learn but there are no notes, no tutorials. The piece is being played by few on youtube. If you search:Main Shayar To Nahin Piano you'll find a few in my opinion the best one is by Dheeraj Sukumaran. This is one of the most demanding and needed tutorial among Indian and Hindustanis. Would you be able? It would really be great. Thanks Thanks

Hi Naveen! The piano posture (including the position of your hand) is a flexible concept - not a fixed and rigid one. Yes, we start from a default ergonomic position - but then we adapt it to the exact requirements of the layout of the text we're playing. Keeping a rounded hand dome is easy when we play a compact position, but it will naturally become flatter as we reach wider structures :). The important thing is to make sure that your knuckles do not collapse. More information on this topic in my free tutorials: www.pianocareer.com/piano-posture/the-piano-posture-and-the-energy-of-the-sound/ and www.pianocareer.com/piano-posture/correct-piano-posture/ - and also in the hundreds of exclusive videos and articles that you can find in the Members Area of my Coaching Program at PianoCareerAcademy.com :).

You are very inspiring....and beautiful! I am 35 years old. Can I reach at least around the intermediate level (not professional) if I practice religiously for about two years? I am a beginner, and I play by ear. I know how to play chords and accompany songs. Thanks for your help! :)

Maker Kashung Thank you, Maher! ;) Theoretically - yes, you can reach an approximate 'intermediate' level in about 2-3 years - but the speed of your progress depends on many factors (the quality of your practice, its consistency, the progressive system you're following etc. etc.)! Learn more about these factors by reading my answer to this frequently asked question in our detailed FAQs (www.pianocareeracademy.com/faqs/), questions No. 22 and 18. Good luck and enjoy your practice! ;)

Thank you, Ryan! :) It's a Yamaha (a very good one!) - but I don't remember the exact model number (I recorded this video more than 2 years ago, and the piano was not mine). Lots of good luck in your piano quest!!! ;)
