The height of the repetition lever window should be .003" above the top of the jack, since the jack is square on top a simple check AFTER the hammer line/blow distance is established with the hammer shanks at least 1/8" above the (misnamed)hammer rest rail. Lightly press the toe(the part under the letoff button) of the jack, watching the hammer it should "wink" down & back up. If it goes down & does not come back up check rep lever spring tension, if it doesn't wink check rep lever tension 1st, if that isn't it adjust rep lever as shown in video with one EXCEPTION, raise the rep lever before turning the adjustment screw! The felt button on the end of that screw rests on felt, IF you TURN it in the DOWN position it will TEAR the felt! Another way to adjust/measure for this is use strips of carbon paper(if you can find any)it should slip between leaving ink on the rep lever.

Sore backs regulating grands - l don't do this type of work anymore- just tuning ....too sore on the back and limbs - Grand regulation is definitely a young man's game!

I would suggest that you explain the difference between those two wippens, why some swear that one is better that the other, with oppoing views in various places. And then there's Schimmel's patent butterfly spring with teflon tensioning screw.......

At 3:35 that my piano problem...the hammer is all the way up and still it not all the way in....I think the spring lost tension or that straight piece is stuck...wish I could put lubricant.....so I tried to take the spring out without removing all the other parts and expanded the spring...it work a little bit but still have stick problem.

Doesn't this regulation mess the let off regulation up? Since the position of jack and whippen gets changed in the butterfly repetition lever spring type

Hi Steve, first of all I would like to thank you for your videos on Piano Tuning and Regulating. It's so much more useful and valuable for me to watch a video than reading an instructional book. I wanted to ask if there may be a specific order in which one should start the action regulation? First Reform the hammers then Letoff, then Repetition etc. Or should one just do all the different things in order of preference? Cheers, Gavin

The blow distance, let off, drop, dip and after touch all work together, so these should be worked until you find what works best with these. The other steps can be done in any order. If you’ll be filing the hammers, you’ll want to do that first.

´ I haven´t found in the entire web the best way to remove the lower section of the butterfly spring in order to extend it, give it more tension and allow the jack to come back under the knuckle. Thanks for your valuable videos

The spring doesn't actually have to be removed, you just need to adjust it slightly by adjusting the bend in the wire.

I need to remove the spring and bend it back for tension..... but how....look like a lot of work
